The Mill Machinist operates CNC milling machines, inspects and deburrs parts, maintains equipment, and communicates with production teams to ensure quality output.

The Mill machinist’s role is to efficiently perform Mill machining processes with minimal supervision. Mill machinists review electronic or written blueprints for each job and work to shape steel, aluminum, plastic, and other materials to specifications for PHD’s customers. The machinist will also inspect, deburr, finish, pack, assemble, help coordinate/maintain inventory in the area, and fill needs of other departments as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pass the certification process provided by the company and produce quality parts efficiently on the following machines: Mazak 510C; Mazak VTC 200 & 300; Bridgeports; as well as pass the GD&T instructional class with an 75% or better.
- Set-up and perform all necessary functions on CNC Mill machines to include multi-turret and spindles. Processes involve both turning and milling functions.
- Be knowledgeable in the use of micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments and gages.
- Make proper dimensional and material determinations per documentation.
- Make offsets to programs when needed; load/unload parts in process sequence of the machine.
- Set proper feeds and speeds of equipment to ensure maximum efficiency within accepted limits for tool life, when not already specified.

- Perform secondary operations on various shop equipment (saw, deburr, grinding, drill press, tapper, Bridgeport mill, manual lathe, and vibratory finishing.)
- Change your own tooling in machines.
- Be proficient in all machining duties to process parts for stock or shipment.
- Operate the surface grinder to machine dowl pins to length and perform any other simple non-tooling related surface grinding functions assigned by PHD.
- Maintain good housekeeping conditions in the work area.
- Communicate to the Production Supervisor on a timely basis the current status of parts being processed.
- Use the PC to access job related databases and complete all computer functions required for the position.
- Effectively and professionally communicate with other departments such as Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Engineering, Assembly, Production, Toolroom, and Maintenance.
- Prior to being awarded this position, the individual must have completed the Qualification test and scored a passing grade of 80% or better
- Above average math skills.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Must have one or more of the following:
- PFH4800 1 & 2 PHD Certifications from CMA Cell
- Fully certified in PHD Tubes/Tierod/H&C Cell (all certifications)
- 2 years of CNC Mill experience outside of PHD
- Technical Degree in Machining or equivalent degree
- Trade or Vocational School Graduate
