Shenandoah Community Health, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center, is seeking an accomplished Manager of Strategic Communication and Fundraising to elevate our brand, inspire community support, cultivate lasting partnerships, and secure resources that expand access to high-quality care.


Job Summary

The Marketing & Resource Development Manager is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the organization’s marketing, communications, public relations, and fundraising activities. This role leads efforts to enhance the organization’s visibility, brand, and community reputation while also supporting philanthropic fundraising, grants, and donor engagement to advance the mission and ensure long-term sustainability.

The position collaborates closely with executive leadership, program leaders, and external partners to tell the organization’s story, grow community support and awareness, and secure diversified funding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing, Communications & Public Relations

  1. Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations strategy that:
    • Enhances the organization’s image and positioning,
    • Supports patient growth and community engagement,
    • Facilitates internal and external communications,
    • Monitor engagement and respond to comments, messages and inquiries,
  2. Serve as the organization’s point of contact for public, community, and media-related activities.
  3. Manage and maintain the organization:
    • Website and digital content,
    • Social and community media platforms,
    • Printed marketing materials, brochures, and multimedia assets,
    • Maintain and update company website with accurate program information, news, resources, services and provider profiles.
    • Creates and publishes organization newsletters.
  4. Plan, organize, and execute:
    • Organizational events,
    • Participation in health fairs and community outreach activities,
    • Public awareness and education campaigns.
  5. Ensure messaging and communication aligns with the organization’s mission, services, and brand standards.
  6. Conduct market research and analysis to inform marketing strategies and measure effectiveness.
  7. Provide marketing counsel and support to leadership and department managers.
  8. Implement marketing initiatives aligned with SCH Strategic Plan.
  1. Collaborate with Recruiting and Human Resources to market open positions and support recruitment advertising, including job postings, social media promotion, and other outreach efforts. 
  2. Prepare presentations, promotional materials, publications, and marketing collateral for leadership, the Board of Directors, and community partners.

Fundraising, Grants & Development

  1. Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to support fundraising strategy, including:
    • Individual giving,
    • Foundations and philanthropic partners,
    • Community-based fundraising initiatives.
  2. Participate in grant development activities, including:
    • Identifying funding opportunities,
    • Assisting with grant writing and proposal development,
    • Coordinating required reporting and impact narratives.
  3. Develop donor-facing materials, including impact reports, giving campaigns, and stewardship communications.
  4. Build and maintain relationships with donors, funders, community organizations, and partners.
  5. Serve as main liaison between SCH and SCH Foundation, participate in SCH Foundation board meetings and assist SCH Foundation with fundraising efforts.
  1. Directs and monitors an accurate and timely process for acknowledging donors, and implements a donor recognition program to express thanks and encourage continued support.

Administration & Performance

  1. Develop and manage an approved budget for marketing and development activities.
  2. Track expenses, invoices, purchase orders, and vendor contracts related to marketing and fundraising.
  3. Establish metrics and reporting tools to evaluate marketing reach, campaign effectiveness, and fundraising outcomes.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
  1. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and decision-making abilities in all aspects of work duties.
  2. Adheres to all SCH policies and procedures.
  3. Ensures that development activities are in compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws and acceptable professional standards and practices.
  4. Assist and attend planning and executing employee engagement events and community education programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in: 
    • Marketing and communications strategy,
    • Public relations and media engagement,
    • Fundraising and/or grant development in a nonprofit or healthcare setting.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, including grant writing and donor communications.
  • Experience managing budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Proficiency with digital tools, content management systems, and standard business software.
  • Strong creative, analytical, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit healthcare organization preferred but not required.
  • Role model for organization values of, Respect, Courtesy and Kindness.
  • Must be able to think rationally and apply logic during high-stress situations.
  • Manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining a high level of organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Work independently with little direct oversight while ensuring all deadlines are met.

Work Environment

  • Office-based with regular community engagement and occasional travel.
  • Attend community events after hours or on weekends periodically. 
  • Sedentary work with periods of standing and walking.
  • Evening or weekend events are crucial to this role.
  • Limited remote work per SCH policy. 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience developing marketing and communications strategies
  • Experience with public relations and media engagement
  • Experience with fundraising and/or grant development in a nonprofit or healthcare setting
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, including grant writing and donor communications
