We are currently seeking an MEP Plans Examiner to join our team in the Anaheim, CA area. If you’re passionate about building safety, code compliance, and supporting public agencies, this is your chance to make a lasting impact.
What You'll Do
- Review mechanical (HVAC, ventilation, ductwork), electrical (load calculations, wiring, service panels) and plumbing/gas system plans for commercial and possibly multi-family residential projects.
- Verify that MEP system plans comply with the applicable California codes (e.g., California Mechanical Code, California Electrical Code, California Plumbing Code) and local amendments.
- Coordinate review comments with other disciplines (building, structural, fire, accessibility) to ensure full plan coordination.
- Prepare detailed correction/clarification letters to applicants when plans don’t meet code requirements; follow up as plans are revised.
- Serve as a technical resource to staff, contractors and the public on MEP-systems code interpretation.
- Maintain accurate plan review records, track review timelines, and ensure documentation of approved plans and issued permits.
- Stay current on changes in MEP codes, standards and best practices.
- Occasionally coordinate with on-site inspection staff to ensure that field installations match approved plans.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 5 years of plan check experience.
- Strong municipal experience.
- ICC Certification Building Plans Examiner and one or more of the following:
- Mechanical Plans Examiner (M2)
- Electrical Plans Examiner (E2)
- Plumbing Plans Examiner (P2)
- In-depth knowledge of building codes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
