The Role
Company Description

We’re Ace & Tate – and yes, we make glasses. But more than that, we make working here worth your while.

Get ready to make a real impact in a certified B Corp as our new Medior Frontend Engineer.

As a Medior Frontend Engineer, you’ll be a key member of the team responsible for shaping our digital customer experience. In close collaboration with designers and engineers, you will not only build features for our web and retail platforms, but also help improve core internal tools that empower our colleagues.

A bit more about us: we’re a fast-growing eyewear brand, based in Amsterdam with an energetic, international and ambitious team. Our frontend technology stack is built on NextJS and TypeScript, running on Vercel — with a back-end on Ruby on Rails (Solidus).

This is a full-time position that offers flexibility, allowing you to work either onsite at our Headquarters on the Singel in Amsterdam or remotely from anywhere in Europe.

This opportunity is available immediately.

You'll be...

  • Building and taking ownership of new features from concept to deployment, ensuring they are robust and scalable through testing, monitoring and code reviews.
  • Translating creative designs from our UI/UX team into responsive, accessible, and high-quality code for our digital storefront and POS systems.
  • Actively contributing to in-house tools, like CMS, to empower our internal teams.
  • Optimising website performance with tools such as Cloudflare Workers and Vercel Edge Config enabling advanced caching and real-time API responses.
  • Working on integrations with other Ace & Tate systems as well as third-party services.
  • Working together with colleagues of all disciplines to launch new products, improve usability, and implement A/B tests.
  • Sharing knowledge with other developers through pair-programming and constructive feedback.

You have...

  • 3+ years of experience as a Frontend Engineer, with a focus on web application development.
  • Proficiency in Next.js, React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, and a solid understanding of frontend design patterns and best practices.
  • Experience working with serverless architecture.
  • A strong focus on user experience and a good understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid, cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends.

Nice if you have...

  • Experience with CDNs (like Cloudflare) and other performance optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of eCommerce concepts, such as cart management, payment gateways, and product catalogs.
  • A good grasp of SEO best practices to optimize website discoverability.
  • Experience in A/B testing and data-driven decision-making to improve user experience and drive conversion rates.
  • Experience building accessible and inclusive web experiences, following WCAG guidelines.
  • Experience maintaining and contributing to a component library, using tools like Storybook to develop, test and document components.
  • Experience contributing to a custom CMS, helping to build and expand its capabilities.
  • Exposure to or an interest in full-stack development.

What’s in it For You...

  • A competitive salary, if needed we can offer visa sponsorship.
  • A flexible hybrid work environment.
  • 25 holidays per year (based on full time) plus additional tenure-based days (2 extra days after 1 year of work, and 3 days extra after 2 years of employment).
  • Company pension plan.
  • Travel reimbursement if you live more than 10kms from our HQ.
  • Wellbeing: a collab with ClassPass and free access to unlimited mental health support via our partner OpenUp.
  • Continuous free updates of your eyewear collection plus great discounts!
  • Daily nutritious lunch and healthy snacks.
  • Participation in events planned by our CultureClub (e.g. Borrel XXL, &talks, holiday gifting, ...).
