Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for a media editor to lead a team of reporters on breaking stories and enterprise features about the fast-paced, vital and continuously evolving world of modern news media.
The ideal candidate will bring a thoughtful yet urgent approach rooted in deep knowledge of the contemporary media scene, and be able to both conceive assignments and help reporters break news on this very competitive beat.
The Post’s media coverage is housed in the Style section, which also covers people, politics, the arts, fashion and social trends, meaning our approach leans more cultural than business-oriented. The media editor will be expected to help deliver stories that probe important media figures, explain how media works, and unpack controversies, with an emphasis on the intersection of media and politics (both electoral and cultural).
This is a great job for an editor with a strong sense of news judgment, a fast metabolism, an abiding fascination with the fragmented modern media landscape, excellent line-editing skills, fluency in the latest audience-driven workflows and the ability to pivot as events unfold. Style collaborates constantly with photo and design teams on the best ways to present our work. We are serious and fun.
