Description
The System Engineer I is an experienced engineer who is capable of managing the engineering and design needs of a project, with supervision, including layout, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and calculations for our material handling systems. You may be assigned specific deliverables, such as: Issued for Review drawings, Issued for Construction drawings, Pre-start-up deliverables, As-Builts, and supporting calculations.
As a System Engineer I, you will manage a team that develops material handling systems drawings that are on-time, accurate, and on budget. Although working under the leadership of a Design Manager, you will manage large parts of the project independently while coordinating your work with the rest of the team. This engineer is responsible for projects from the concept stage and takes the lead in design and supporting the project management and field teams. System Engineer I will be expected to master customer specifications and standards, system integration, and calculations in support of conveyor design. You would be expected to solve complex or unusual technical challenges during the design and installation stages of material handling projects. In this essence, the Systems Engineer:
1. Perform engineering duties associated with the design, fabrication, and installation of material handling systems.
2. Ensure that the engineering output for a project (drawings and supporting calculations) meet applicable codes, standards and regulations.
3. Develop calculations and integration associated with conveyor designs.
4. Develop a detailed knowledge of our customer’s standards and specifications for conveyor design.
5. Develop a detailed knowledge of typical codes and standards associated with conveyor fabrication and installation.
6. When assigned as an engineering project lead, develop and communicate to the project team a detailed schedule of engineering tasks for their assigned project.
7. When assigned, track and report on the progress of their assigned project to the Director of Engineering.
8. Write technical reports, handbooks, and bulletins for use by staff and customers.
9. When assigned, manage their team to deliver quality drawings that are functional for installation and fabrication.
10. Uphold the policies and procedures of DCI.
11. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders/Customers
12. Perform any other tasks assigned by the business.
Requirements
Education, Skills, and Experience
- Minimum: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Experience: 3 years minimum in design and development of engineered systems with focus on material handling
- Excellent internal and external communication skills
- Experience managing teams considered a plus
- Working knowledge of MS Office plus 2D and 3D CAD software (Inventor, Revit and AutoCAD preferred, but not required)
- FEA analysis software experience, such as RISA 3D, a plus
- Passage of Fundamentals of Engineering Exam a plus
- Must work well in a team setting, show ability to multitask, and prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Must have leadership, time management, communication, and customer service skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a heart to serve

Work schedule: Avg. 45 hours per week, nights and weekends as required to meet deadlines.

Skills Required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Minimum 3 years experience in design and development of engineered systems focused on material handling
- Working knowledge of MS Office and 2D/3D CAD software
- Familiarity with Inventor, Revit, AutoCAD
- Experience with FEA analysis software (e.g., RISA 3D)
- Passage of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Excellent internal and external communication skills
- Ability to lead/manage teams (experience managing teams a plus)
- Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
