ABOUT US:

Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company building a faster, more connected future. Our mission is to democratize high-speed flight by making supersonic travel flexible, accessible, and sustainable. We believe that rapid, on-demand, point-to-point global mobility will become the new standard for moving people and goods across the planet. To achieve this, we are integrating our advanced airframe and engine technologies—which include Duality™, our proprietary dual-use propulsion system—with a new flight operations model to make supersonic transport as efficient and economical as commercial air travel is today. In the near term, we are developing adaptable, high-speed systems to close aircraft performance gaps for the United States government.

WHO WE ARE:

We’re a team of passionate engineers dedicated to advancing aerospace. We’re generalists with specialist depth, united by a flat structure and a shared obsession with building things that work well. We move fast, stay pragmatic, and let engineering excellence speak louder than hierarchy.

WHO YOU ARE

You enjoy designing aircraft, but you're equally motivated by improving how aircraft are designed. You're the engineer who notices repetitive work, builds better tools, and leaves the team faster than you found it.

You understand that material selection, standard hardware, CAD workflows, and engineering automation have a direct impact on aircraft weight, manufacturability, and performance. You enjoy working across structures and mechanical systems while developing the engineering tools and standards that enable an entire team to design efficiently and consistently.

You'll contribute directly to aircraft design while helping own the digital engineering environment that supports it, from CAD automation to mass properties tracking.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Design mechanical systems and aircraft structures from concept through production and flight test.

  • Develop and maintain the aircraft mass properties model under the mentorship of senior engineers, tracking and reporting weight, center of gravity, and inertia throughout the program.

  • Build automation between NX, Teamcenter, and mass properties analysis tools using Python and NX Open to eliminate manual workflows.

  • Own engineering design libraries, including standard materials, hardware, and reusable design elements that enable consistent, manufacturable aircraft designs.

  • Administer engineering databases that drive aircraft mass properties, ensuring designs use approved materials, hardware, and engineering standards.

  • Collaborate with structures, systems, manufacturing, and flight sciences to evaluate aircraft-level design trades and understand the impact of design decisions on weight, balance, and performance.

  • Support aircraft integration, manufacturing, ground test, and flight test, incorporating lessons learned into future designs.

  • Continuously improve engineering workflows, design standards, and digital engineering capabilities as the team grows.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • 2–7 years of experience designing aerospace or other highly engineered mechanical systems.

  • Experience with NX/Teamcenter or a comparable CAD/PLM system, and interest in developing CAD automation using NX Open, Python, or similar tools.

  • Strong understanding of aircraft mass properties and why weight, center of gravity, and inertia are critical to aircraft performance.

  • Experience building engineering tools, automating workflows, or improving engineering processes.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, materials, and standard hardware selection.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to move comfortably between design engineering, scripting, and data management.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Hands-on mindset with a bias toward execution and continuous improvement.

PERKS & BENEFITS:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, including Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

  • 401(k) program and transparent stock option plan

  • Self-managed and flexible time-off policy, including PTO, paid holidays, and sick time

  • Flexible work environment

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

At Astro Mechanica, we highly value in-office work to foster collaboration and strengthen our company culture. We consider working in the office five days a week an essential part of the employee's role.

Astro Mechanica is an equal opportunity employer. We proudly recruit and hire a diverse workforce and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

Skills Required
