Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering Intern to contribute to our experimental programs, fabrication efforts, and high-speed test operations. This internship provides hands-on experience in structural design, aerodynamics, and experimental validation of hypersonic systems.  

Job Details

  • Role Type: Full-time Internship, non-exempt
  • Length of Internship: 12 weeks – Mid September to Mid December
  • Compensation: $30/hr
  • Location: Alameda, CA


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, fabrication, and testing of hypersonic test articles. 
  • Utilize SolidWorks to develop CAD models and design modifications. 
  • Perform structural and aerodynamic analyses for projectile designs. 
  • Assist in test operations, including hardware preparation and data collection. 
  • Work with engineers to refine projectile, injector, and rig components for Longshot’s gas gun testbed. 
  • Operate hand tools, shop equipment, and fabrication tools for prototyping and assembly. 

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Experience with hand tools, machining, and light fabrication. 
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software. 
  • Basic understanding of fluid dynamics, structures, and aerodynamics. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot test setups. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-speed aerodynamics and experimental testing. 
  • Familiarity with shop equipment (drill press, milling machines, etc.). 
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems and instrumentation.
