IPG’s Medical Products Group is focused on developing next-generation medical products based on IPG’s state-of-the-art lasers. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining and developing subsystems and overall designs in the development and manufacture of medical lasers.
- Concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, configuration management, and documentation of complex opto-mechanical systems and components
- Assemble and test prototype products and manufacturing systems, ultimately leading to release into manufacturing facilities
- Drive selection and qualification of critical suppliers for systems integration and capital equipment design and build
- Support development teams in design and development of manufacturing hardware and fixtures
- Support and interact with other departments, including R&D, technical support, field service, and manufacturing
- Document specifications and designs in accordance with applicable medical device standards
Qualifications:
Experience Desired:
- 3-10 years experience in a medical device or medical disposable company.
- Proficient at SolidWorks
- Knowledge of materials, material mechanical testing/lab experience, modeling mechanical properties (MATLAB) used in medical devices including patient contact.
- Solid Understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM), medical device qualification process, including biocompatibility and sterility.
- Preferred experience with laparoscopic, endoscopic related hardware design.
- Ability to work with Industrial Engineer on packaging of mechanical design into finished cosmetics.
- Capable of undertaking design tasks, prototyping, engineering testing and interfacing with outside partners on the above qualification testing.
- Work with moderate direction, but capable of thinking thru tasks, plans, contingencies.
Education Required:
- B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with at least 2 years of medical product development or relevant experience in design of capital equipment or production support/sustaining engineering
