Our Company

MISO develops technology that elevates human potential in the commercial kitchen.

We’re engineering production-ready robotic systems that tightly integrate perception, real-time decision making, and electromechanical controls to automate the most dangerous, least desirable tasks in food preparation. That means building software that understands the physical world as it actually behaves, and hardware that can execute precisely in the face of chaos. Success is measured in uptime, throughput, and trust from our customers, not demos.

Our flagship platform, Flippy, is already operating in high-volume restaurant kitchens across seven states. Zippy, our Kitchen Intelligence software centralizes all operational data in our broader ecosystem, expanding the role of AI enabled autonomy in real-world operations. Backed by industry leaders, including Ecolab (NYSE: ECL), Miso combines the stability of a proven commercial product with the technical depth and ambition of a company passionately innovating to solve foundational problems in robotics and restaurant operations.

If you’re excited by hard constraints, real customers, and the challenge of making machines perform reliably where failure isn’t an option, you’ll find meaningful problems to work on here.

The Role

The Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer will play a crucial role in deploying our Flippy robotic kitchen assistants, focusing on enhancing the user experience and ensuring seamless integration into live restaurant environments. This position works closely with product end users and across the full development lifecycle, with a particular emphasis on the deployment phase. The primary function of this role is to be a first point of contact in supporting immediate needs for Engineering, Operations, Sales, and other cross-functional partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define hardware requirements and perform system-level design trades with the product team, specifically for Flippy deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineering, systems, and testing teams to evaluate and optimize designs for customer needs, reliability, and ease of deployment of Flippy into a live restaurant environment.
  • Contribute to the full development cycle of Flippy's various robot subsystems (mechanical, electronic, software, etc.) to meet defined performance requirements, with a focus on deployment considerations. This includes architecture definition, component selection, system design, analysis, testing, qualification, etc.
  • Design, prototype, and build mechanical and electro- mechanical modules for Flippy robotic systems, with an eye towards robust deployment.
  • Implement rigorous and insightful testing protocols, creating testing documentation and test designs specifically for Flippy's deployment.
  • Iterate on designs to drive long-term reliability in the field for Flippy.
  • Build and maintain detailed CAD models and drawings for Flippy components and assemblies.
  • Manage and issue ECOs for Flippy parts and assemblies, assign part numbers, track revisions, and organize sub-assemblies and assemblies using Arena PLM.
  • Apply DFM on early-stage part designs to drive down manufacturing costs for Flippy components.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to identify and evaluate component suppliers and vendors for Flippy.
  • Maintain inventory and BOM for Flippy parts within the system.
  • Integrate Flippy's mechanical modules with other systems (electrical, electronic, software etc.) during deployment.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team to work with third-party vendors to procure and build parts for Flippy; Aid in establishing supply chain and assembly paths for large-scale manufacturing and deployment.
  • Design and simulate Flippy component parts to reduce cost and increase reliability.
  • Deploy complex Flippy electro-mechanical systems at scale.
  • Participate in design sessions with your team to build a shared understanding of the Flippy product.
  • Create and maintain documentation on the Flippy systems you create.
  • Field Feedback & Design Improvement: gathering and organizing field feedback.
  • Develop and optimize designs in 3D CAD software with associated CAE tools.
  • Validate manufacturing, assembly, and service feasibility.
  • Complete and release component designs and documentation, including 2D drawings, assembly manuals, installation videos, Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
  • Prototyping & Fabrication: excellent workshop skills.
  • Validate components per defined engineering requirements.
  • Engineering Liaison & Cross-Functional Support: Act as the primary bridge between Operations, Sales, and the Mechanical Engineering teams.
  • Participate in the sourcing process and manage engineering relationships with suppliers.
  • Deliver to defined schedules.
  • Pre- & Post-Installation & Technical Support (remote).

Qualifications

  • A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience designing, building, and testing AI-powered mechanical systems or robots, with a focus on deployment.
  • Experience working in a team that designed, manufactured, shipped, and supported products.
  • Proficiency in CAD (Modeling, Assemblies, Drawings, Motion); SolidWorks or OnShape experience preferred.
  • Experience using PLM systems, assigning part and assembly numbers.
  • Ability to perform Machine Design analysis (bolted joints, stress/strain, load path/free body diagrams, dynamics/kinematics, analysis assumption) using both hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for design validation.
  • Proficiency in using GD&T (ASME Y14.5) for creating detailed part/assembly drawings is preferred.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes; specifically machining, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, and welding.
  • Experience using 3D printing for rapid prototyping.
  • Experience in integrating and validating automated systems, particularly during deployment.
  • Experience using Confluence and Jira.
  • Ability to work well in small teams, able to leave a positive impact on working culture.
  • Ability to communicate well with people from different areas of expertise, from customers to designers to software developers.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to learn at hyperspeed.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Willing to go the extra mile to help the team.
  • Adjust well to rapid change.

What We Do

Miso Robotics is building AI-powered automation for commercial kitchens, starting with Flippy, the industry's first fully autonomous fry station robot deployed at commercial scale. If you're an AI or robotics engineer who wants to see your work in action every single day, solving real problems for real people, this is where that happens.
We're tackling one of the hardest robotics challenges: unstructured environments. Restaurant kitchens are chaotic, unpredictable, and unforgiving. Orders surge randomly, equipment varies by location, and there's zero tolerance for downtime. Our robots work alongside humans in 350-degree heat, handling multiple tasks simultaneously while adapting in real time. It's computer vision, motion planning, and AI decision-making at the edge, all day, every day.
Our tech stack is cutting edge. We use NVIDIA AI for vision and inference, custom motion control algorithms, and machine learning models that continuously improve from real-world data across dozens of live deployments. The impact is immediate and measurable. When a restaurant operator tells us our robot "had their back" during a lunch rush, or a worker says Flippy is their "best friend," that's our mission in action.
Beyond Flippy, our Innovation Lab in Pasadena develops next-generation kitchen automation. We're expanding into new stations, new tasks, and new capabilities. The kitchen of the future needs engineers who can build systems that actually work when the stakes are high and the environment is hostile.
You'll work with a team that includes product leaders from Amazon and Ring, robotics engineers solving novel manipulation problems, and a CEO who gets that great technology means nothing if it breaks down during dinner rush. We obsess over real-world performance, not lab demos.

Why Work With Us

We're revolutionizing food service with AI robotics that solve real labor challenges. Join us to build cutting-edge technology that's already deployed in major chains, work with a mission-driven team backed by strong funding, and shape the future of an industry ripe for innovation.
