About Precision AI
Precision AI is on a mission to transform agriculture with cutting-edge drone technology. Our aerial spraying systems help farmers target weeds with surgical precision, reducing chemical use and increasing yields. We’re a fast-moving, impact-driven team looking for people who want to help build the future of farming.
Role Overview
The ideal Mechanical Engineer at Precision AI is someone who loves building real hardware and moves fast in the digital design space. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside electrical, controls, GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), and software engineers, developing the mechanical systems that power our UAV spraying platforms from concept through flight testing.
If you’re someone who can jump into SolidWorks, Fusion or Onshape, and drive CAD quickly - iterating through assemblies, drawings, and BOMs without getting stuck - this role will feel like home. You bring a practical, builder’s mindset and strong mechanical fundamentals, with experience designing structures and fluid systems that survive harsh outdoor environments.
You’ll spend your days designing, prototyping, and refining mechanical subsystems like nozzle mounts, plumbing routes, enclosures, and support structures. Some days you’ll be at your desk pushing CAD and releasing drawings; other days you’ll be in the lab or field, solving fit-up problems, iterating on parts, and validating designs under vibration, shock, and real-world spray operations.
At Precision AI, we move fast and build things that matter. If you take pride in craftsmanship, enjoy rapid iteration, and want to see your work directly improve reliability and performance in sustainable agriculture, we’d love to meet you.
This role is hybrid in Calgary due to the hands-on nature of prototyping, integration, and UAV flight verification and validation.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & CAD
- Drive CAD rapidly in SolidWorks, Fusion, or Onshape to design parts, assemblies, drawings, and BOMs with high velocity.
- Navigate and manage complex CAD databases efficiently (assemblies, configurations, revisions, and release workflows).
- Create production-ready drawings with clear tolerances, fits, and manufacturability considerations.
- Own mechanical documentation including drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and revision history.
Spray System & Structures
- Design and iterate on spray-related hardware: nozzle mounts, plumbing routing, fittings, brackets, and support structures.
- Develop mechanical solutions that withstand agricultural shock, vibration, dust, moisture, and chemical exposure.
- Partner with manufacturing / vendors to ensure parts are buildable, cost-effective, and scalable for production.
- Improve serviceability: design for easy field maintenance, fast swaps, and clean cable / hose routing.
- Contribute to system-level packaging to ensure mechanical layout supports electrical, controls, and flight needs.
Prototyping, Integration & Testing
- Build prototypes and support rapid iteration cycles; fit checks, adjustments, and design updates based on learnings.
- Support mechanical integration on the UAV platform (mounting, routing, fasteners, sealing, and alignment).
- Participate in test planning and execution for mechanical subsystems in lab and field environments.
- Analyze failures (leaks, cracks, loosening, wear) and implement corrective design changes quickly.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Electrical Engineers on harness routing, strain relief, and connector mounting strategies.
- Collaborate with Controls / GNC and Software teams to align mechanical constraints with performance requirements.
Relevant Experience
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience designing real-world hardware systems.
- Experience in agtech, outdoor robotics, automotive, aerospace, or industrial equipment (fluid systems / structures preferred).
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion, or Onshape with demonstrated ability to move fast through complex assemblies and revisions.
- Proven design and analysis of metallic components using agtech best-practice welding, brazing, riveting, and fastening methods
- Hands-on experience supporting prototyping, integration, and field testing.
What You Bring
- A builder mindset: you design to ship, test, and iterate—not to perfect in isolation.
- Comfort moving between CAD work and hands-on problem solving in the lab or field.
- High velocity in the digital space: you can drive CAD and data management quickly without sacrificing quality.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Willingness to travel 5–10% for field deployments and integration tests
Bonus
- Experience designing spray systems, nozzles, plumbing, or chemical handling equipment.
- Background in agricultural equipment, UAVs, or outdoor robotics.
- Experience with rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, machining, sheet metal, composites).
- Experience with DFM/DFA and working directly with contract manufacturers.
- Familiarity with FEA or vibration / fatigue analysis workflows.
- Competition or Open Source Team Experience
Not Sure You Meet Every Requirement?
Research shows that some candidates, especially women, underrepresented groups, and career changers, are less likely to apply for a role unless they meet 100% of the listed qualifications. At Precision AI, we believe the right person can grow into the role, and we value potential as much as experience. If you’re excited about our mission and think you could contribute, we encourage you to apply, even if you don’t check every single box.
Equal Employment Opportunity
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other status protected by law.

What We Do
At Precision AI we are on a mission to accelerate artificial intelligence based farming practices to create healthier, happier, and more profitable farms. By leveraging our advanced drones and custom-built AI technology, we can take crop production decisions from a whole field to an individual plant level. This type of decision-making transforms an industry that has been reliant on larger and broader technology for decades. The outcome of our solutions is integrated into the agricultural technology of today and helps craft the machines of tomorrow that will feed the world. Precision AI was founded in 2017 with headquarters in Regina, Saskatchewan. We are scaling rapidly with an elite global team solving the agriculture challenges of farms around the world.
