Wunderlich-Malec is adding a Mechanical Process Engineer to our Calabasas, CA location. The successful candidate will perform the duties of a Mechanical Engineer on projects in various industrial plants.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop P&IDs
- Perform mass and energy balance calculations
- Perform site investigations
- Size and select pumps, pipes, ducts, conveyors, and other material handling equipment, process equipment, utility equipment
- Generate engineering and construction documents, drawings and specifications
- Manage site construction activities including coordinating different construction tasks, supervision of various trade contractors, communication with vendors, contractors, facility owner/operators
- Manage project construction budget and schedule
- Successfully manage startup of process systems and HVAC systems and their commissioning
Minimum Requirements
Successful candidates will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Four-year college degree in engineering with a major in Mechanical, Chemical or similar discipline
- At least four years of engineering experience
- High level of competency with at least one 3D CAD software like Revit, Plant 3D, AutoCAD MEP, Inventor, SolidWorks, MicroStation etc.
- High level of competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project software
- Ability to travel to project sites
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to stay organized in the execution of project work
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, clients, contractors, and vendors
- Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel up to 40% to local customer sites. Customers are mostly in the greater Sacramento, CA area but occasional assignments may require travel across the US.
Desired Qualifications
Candidates with the following qualifications will be given preference.
- Experience working in an engineering capacity in pharmaceutical, biotech, power plant, food and beverage, consumer goods manufacturing, or other industrial manufacturing operation
- Prior experience design HVAC systems.
- Experience working with an engineering design firm or engineering consulting firm
- Prior experience with steam systems, hydronic systems, compressed gas systems etc.
- Familiarity with Pipeflo, AutoPIPE, Carrier HAP, Trane Tracer or other similar software
- EIT certification
- PE license
- Technical publication or poster board presentations at professional conventions
- Familiarity with GMP principles and California building codes, OSHA, FDA and USDA regulations
- Familiarity with ASHRAE, ISPE and ASME code
- Ability to demonstrate high-quality level in document and drawing preparation
- Interest in performing pipe stress analysis.
- Excellent technical writing skills
Physical Demands of Position
Seeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
Working Conditions
Standard office environment, on-site office environment, and diverse industrial/construction environments. Frequent PC usage, copy machines, phones.

The expected salary rate is approximately $95,000 - $125,000 per year depending on qualifications.
