Nusano has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer at our West Valley City, Utah, facility. This Mechanical Engineer will be part of our Mechanical Engineering team and will help complete the design and build-out of our particle accelerator-based radioisotope production facility.

This role provides an opportunity to work in both the design and “boots-on-the-ground” realms. ResponsibilitiesWhat You’ll DoCollaborate with cross-disciplinary teams of physicists, chemists, engineers, and technical support staff to develop and finalize designs for complex new devices
Translate concepts into detailed engineering drawings, perform design analyses, identify potential problems, and independently or collaboratively develop solutions
Manage all aspects of component fabrication, including components that consist of multiple complex pieces
Install, test, commission, and provide lifecycle support for custom equipment
Author and maintain procedures and documentation that support the equipment and the stakeholders responsible for its operation
Develop test plans and participate in testing to qualify and evaluate equipment performance
Present project results and designs and respond to questions regarding engineering design and equipment operation
Work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment
Once equipment is operational, serve as a subject matter expert and assist with troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades
Give and receive direction and communicate effectively across all teams within the organization
Continuously strive for the highest level of performance
Maintain a personal safety mindset at the forefront of all work
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
Five or more years of related professional work experience
Aptitude for assembly work, on-the-fly modifications, and guiding a group of technicians in completing similar work
Two or more years of experience with SolidWorks CAD modeling
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Demonstrated analytical thinking and the ability to learn quickly
Professional Engineer license, master’s degree, or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field
Experience designing for and working within radiation environments
Experience with manufacturing processes, including welding, brazing, machining, and assembly, as well as distributed systems such as water and gas systems
Experience with some or all of the following: kinematics, linear motion stages, robotics, linkages, mechanism design, pneumatics, metrology, precision measurement, inspection, and fine alignment
Working knowledge of high-vacuum systems
Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) in accordance with ASME standards
Experience working within a quality program and adhering to quality standards
Work will be conducted in both an office environment and on assembly and production floors
Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds
Must be able to sit for extended periods
Must be comfortable working as a radiation worker
Frequent computer use requiring repetitive keyboard and mouse operation and manual dexterity
Ability to perform hands-on assembly work
Ability to travel occasionally for site visits, vendor meetings, and conferences
