We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to drive the Design for Serviceability (DFS). In this role, you will perform evaluations of form, fit, function, access, and analysis of our products. You will present comprehensive reports, findings, and opportunities to reduce cost, time, and motion. You will collaborate with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, and Prototyping to advocate for core initiatives that support the Service optimization of our products. You will spend time with the field team evaluating the products and identify changes that will improve the overall Serviceability and Maintainability of our products. Through feedback from the field team, you will identify, design, and provide the tooling that is required to service the products.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive Serviceability (Design for Serviceability).
- Evaluate part and assembly design, from concept to design to manufacturing introduction for hand clearance, tooling clearance, ergonomics, and feasibility of replacement of all components.
- Develop service part release strategy and maintain the Service BOM for spare parts planning.
- Work closely with engineering teams to integrate components and electromechanical systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers on the build of new product iterations.
- Identify the need for specialized tooling. Guide the special tooling team for design ideation, and development of the tool
- Participate in requirements definition as it pertains to service, availability of the product, and reliability.
- Provide comprehensive cost/time modeling that showcases opportunities to drive product change that supports the reduction of cost or complexity of the repair.
- Work with the technical writing team to establish the repair process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4-6 years of engineering experience
- Demonstrated successful experience in mechanical engineering within a product design and manufacturing environment.
- Experience designing and developing products through the lifecycle.
- Ability to design for a wide range of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with product and process validation.
- Tooling and/or equipment design experience.
- Detail-oriented, including proven documentation skills.
- Strong 3D CAD experience, CATIA a plus
- Ability to work autonomously to manage projects
- Experience with specific to sensors, camera, and compute systems
