Who we are looking for
The Mechanical Engineer - Process & Mechanical will support the execution of industrial and capital projects from concept development through startup and commissioning. This role offers a dynamic mix of technical design work, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on project support. As a key contributor, you will develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), heat and material balances, and equipment specifications, while participating in design reviews, requirements gathering, and vendor coordination. You will create detailed engineering drawings and process models using CAD and simulation (FEA & CFD) tools, and support the preparation of technical reports and project documentation. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with senior and principal engineers, contributing to your ongoing technical and professional development—including pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license. You will engage in internal and client-facing meetings, assist with project proposals and estimates, and coordinate with a wide range of disciplines, including mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls teams, as well as fabrication and field service personnel.

Support Process & Mechanical Engineering Projects
Contribute to mechanical and process engineering scope on projects from concept development through startup and commissioning. Facilitate requirements gathering, concept and preliminary design, PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balance evaluation, equipment list creation, materials of construction selection, code and standard research, fabrication and assembly support, and vendor engagement.
Develop Technical Designs and Documentation
Create drawings, schematics, and diagrams utilizing CAD, process diagramming, and process simulation software/tools (FEA & CFD). Support, and occasionally lead, the development and writing of technical reports and project documentation.
Collaborate and Grow Professionally
Work closely with a senior or principal engineer mentor to define and execute personal and professional development goals, including pursuing your Professional Engineer (PE) license. Participate in internal and client-facing project meetings and design reviews. Collaborate with project managers to plan, manage, and execute tasks.
Contribute to Business Development
Support project estimating, proposal development, and schedule creation in partnership with the project management and business development teams.
Work Across Disciplines
Collaborate with mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls engineers and designers, as well as fabrication and field service teams, to deliver integrated solutions.
What You Bring
Essential Qualifications
1-3+ years of relevant experience in industrial process equipment and/or capital project environments
Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and personal management skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Eager to learn and adapt in a fast-paced engineering environment; naturally curious
Experience with CAD software/tools; AutoCAD 2D/3D and/or SolidWorks preferred
Experience with analysis and simulation tools; SolidWorks FEA and CFD preferred
Experience with process diagramming and flowcharting tools; Microsoft Visio preferred
Experience gathering, documenting, and communicating technical project requirements
Experience estimating overall and engineering project costs
Ability to be on-site at our offices in Rochester, NY, and/or Rush, NY
Willingness to travel to client sites and suppliers as needed (typically <25%)
BS and/or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university
Preferred Qualifications
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
Working knowledge of one or multiple of the following mechanical engineering domains: industrial cooling systems, ventilation/air handling systems, water systems, piping and pumping systems, conveyance systems, steam systems, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, and/or structural supports
Experience working with ISO9001 or similar quality system
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools and methodologies
Compensation Range: The base salary range for this position is $74,129.60 – $111,194.41 per year. This range represents the Company’s good faith estimate of the base compensation for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for annual incentive compensation and/or long-term incentives, subject to Company plans. The Company offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and other benefits.
