The Mechanical Designer I supports engineering activities by creating and updating mechanical models and drawings based on redlines and established design direction. This role produces complete mechanical design packages with a moderate level of customization, supports multiple low-complexity projects, and applies intermediate proficiency in Autodesk Inventor while continuing to develop technical independence and design judgment.
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
- Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings from redlines and marked-up documentation.
- Produce complete mechanical design packages containing up to 50% custom assemblies.
- Manage and execute work for up to three (3) concurrent low-custom projects.
- Maintain drafting accuracy resulting in fewer than three (3) redline iterations on average due to drafting errors.
- Apply established drafting standards, templates, and best practices.
- Incorporate feedback from engineers/senior designers to improve design quality and efficiency.
- Ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, and ready for review or release.
Qualifications:
- Intermediate proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
- Basic understanding of mechanical drafting standards and documentation practices.
- Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting quality and schedule expectations.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Effective communication skills and ability to accept technical feedback.
Education/Experience:
- Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical drafting and design. Experience with process piping is a plus.
- Certification in Autodesk Inventor preferred.
- Proficient in Autodesk (Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault); familiarity with other design software (e.g.,SolidWorks, Revit) is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of construction sites.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Autodesk Inventor – Intermediate Proficiency
- Strong understanding of different parameter types and parametric design intent
- Ability to create parametric equations and formulas
- Complex 3D part feature creation, including:
- Loft and Sweep features
- Patterning – including patterns of patterns
- Shell features
- Use of advanced assembly tools, including:
- View representations
- Positional representations
- Derived parts
- Basic use of model states
- Familiarity with Frame Generator and structural modeling concepts
- Creation and management of complex drawings, including:
- Managing section and detail views
- Breakout views
- Exploded views
- Retrieved dimensions
Skills Required
- Intermediate proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (parametric modeling, equations, lofts, sweeps, patterning, shell features)
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Proficient in Vault
- Basic understanding of mechanical drafting standards and documentation practices
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical drafting and design
- Ability to manage multiple low-custom projects while meeting quality and schedule expectations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to incorporate technical feedback
- Must be able to access and navigate construction sites and lift up to 15 pounds
