Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Material Handling Equipment Operator contributes to the safe, efficient flow of daily production through the movement of raw materials, in-process and finished goods and containers. Safety and department housekeeping are also the responsibility of the Material Handling Equipment Operator.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Prior experience operating a forklift, reach truck or tugger.
  • Prior experience loading and unloading trailers.
  • Ability to understand, anticipate and follow direction while exercising maturity of judgement.
  • Possesses or has the ability to successfully obtain a forklift and tugger license and must demonstrate that they can operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Good coordination of movement to carry out routine, repetitive tasks and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently to perform duties with little supervision.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and with a variable workload.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to understand basic computer software an asset.
  • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with other team members.
  • Able to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time while operating material handling equipment in a manufacturing environment.


DUTIES:

  • Safely and efficiently move components, containers, partials and scrap, etc. according to current movement and storage policy/procedures.
  • Perform material handling duties: move, load/unload parts either by manual or tugger operation; carry out and record incoming/outgoing inspection parts, tags, racks, etc.; operate inventory scanner; cycle material based on FIFO standards.
  • Ensures there are no production delays, shortages or stock loss.
  • Performs daily inspections, keeps equipment charged/fueled and monitors fluid levels. Reports service conditions as required and takes the equipment out of service if it has any safety concerns and adheres to all safe driving polices.
  • Properly rotates stock First In, First Out (FIFO) and notifies proper personnel or any potential shortages/overstocks.
  • Ensures all outgoing shipments are properly scanned to Bill of Lading (BOL).
  • Ensures all inbound shipments are properly checked in.
  • Cross Train with Tugger Drivers.
  • Tugger drivers must have the ability to load lines accurately.
  • Actively participates in 5S activities to include taking care of empty totes, bins and skids.
  • Services and assists internal customers as required (i.e., maintenance, production, quality, etc.).
  • Trains workers (fulltime or temporary) if asked to train. Readily and willingly trains following the training process and the principles of CBAM.
  • Demonstrates cooperation and flexibility related to work assignments and overtime. Works where directed to work and is open to training for multiple work assignments.
  • Watches for quality defects when moving containers and reports any to their direct Area Leader or Production Area/Shift Leader.
  • Monitors outbound & inbound products and shipments for defects and reports all issues immediately. Verifies product being sent to customer and verifies & documents containers coming in from suppliers and customers.
  • Keeps exit doors closed to unauthorized visitors to protect Company assets and employees. Monitors for unauthorized personnel, follows C-TPAT protocol and reports immediately to their Area Leader.
  • Takes part in the continuous improvement process to improve productivity and quality (provides suggestions at team meetings, understands losses and gives ideas/solutions, participates in trials/experiments, volunteers on committee or focus group activities, etc.) and focuses on solutions.
  • Attends departmental and plant-wide communication meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends training as scheduled.
  • Complies with, supports and models CBAM's operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook, and Magna's Employee's Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
  • Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. ISO 9001/IATF 16949, ISO 45001, ISO14001).
  • Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA. Follows and ensures Company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Other duties as required.

Forklift, tugger, reach truck, computer, scanning equipment, label printers, communication devices, etc.
