BAE Systems Materials Engineering Capability Group is seeking a Failure Analyses / Materials Engineer to work in our Nashua, New Hampshire location. The engineering candidate for this role will possess strength in Materials with extensive hands-on experience in Failure Analyses with the ability manage and prioritize multiple job requests, define Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) and be able to fluently interface with Program teams. You will have the opportunity to work on high visibility space and defense programs, looking into the forensics of "what's going on?" on critical electronics to assure a high-fidelity product is consistently delivered to our customers, at all times.
This individual will be responsible to work both autonomously and working with the team of failure analysts within Electronic Systems. This person is required to be self-directed and highly motivated in providing rapid support by means of analyses of all materials and electronics testing across all levels of the business from engineering to production. Additionally, this candidate will be provided challenging opportunities to work across all Business Areas, Product Lines and cross Sector. within BAE Systems, Inc.
The job responsibilities will include Failure Analyses, Lab and job request management in addition, to the opportunity to provide up front and ongoing support to programs on hardware development. Including engagement with continuous improvement activities on current and derivative hardware as it is being defined and validated.
The individual selected for this position shall have demonstrated skills as a self-starter with the autonomy for investigating failures on a broad range of materials and system level hardware as well as applying their experience and knowledge to influence the continuous improvement of electronic/hardware designs.
You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from tenured electronics and materials engineering subject matter experts across the enterprise.
You will work closely with the Electronic Solutions Materials Capability Group supporting fellow colleagues and the department supervisor. You will be working in an intensely collaborative and exciting analysis oriented and team-motivated environment. You will gain and develop proficiency in our analysis tools, laboratory equipment and techniques, all the while executing in highly dynamic, small team environment. Additionally, this role will engage you with the design for - printing and analyses of Additive Manufacturing (AM) hardware. Providing you the opportunity to apply your materials and design knowledge in support the various programs that require hardware from the in-house AM Center.
**Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship status**
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and working remotely from home.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree or Masters Degree Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
  • 5 years of industry experience in Electronics - Materials/Failure/Reliability analyses lab.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals and acute deductive reasoning and screening methodologies
  • Experience with Root Cause Analyses and Corrective Action.
  • Experienced in interrogating hardware model design files.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Report compiling and writing skills
  • Highly organized, neat and conscience to details
  • Motivated self-starter and collaborative problem solver
  • Ability to interface and work cooperatively with external and internal customers.
  • Autonomous and knowledgeable using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analyses, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Instron testing, Hardness,
  • Experience and understanding of Additive Manufacturing (design for AM & printing)
  • Experienced in Lab execution - Safety Health and Environment protocols, Chemicals and Preventative Maintenance
  • Active Secret Clearance


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Proficient in using PTC CREO SW
  • Proficient in designing hardware/ fixtures for failure analyses test set-up.
  • Experience with the materials, design for and printing of Additive Manufacturing hardware
  • Knowledgeable on use and operation of Fortus FDMs and Markforged Additive machines
  • Use of etchants for delidding for component analyses
  • DOD Top Secret Clearance - Eligible


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $92290 - $156860
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
