The Role

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

MASTER SCHEDULER (STARSHIELD)

Have a knack for enabling timely results in complex situations? Want to have a unique vantage point across multiple SpaceX programs on a rapid-growth product line?

Starshield leverages SpaceX’s Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is designed for government use, with an initial focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads.

SpaceX’s Mission Management team is looking for a dedicated individual to develop, maintain, and communicate our highly dynamic development schedules. From early integration studies to on-orbit tests of new satellite functionality, you will closely partner with engineering and program leadership teams to shape multiple upcoming efforts. Our development timelines are aggressive. Our ideal candidate has a passion for this work and SpaceX’s mission, is a self-starter and flexible to changing constraints.

Our missions and contracts require proactive schedule coordination of non-recurring engineering development projects, space vehicle design and assembly activities, ground systems and infrastructure development, software, test activities, launch, and mission operations. As the program master scheduler, you will be at the nexus of these activities and will work to construct, maintain, communicate and effect changes across multiple plans in parallel. You will develop schedule narratives and risk analysis to identify and communicate schedule risks. You’ll be empowered to identify gaps in our engineering plans, implement scheduling process improvements, and drive consistency across our proposals and mission schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the master scheduler for new programs.
  • Coordinate, maintain, communicate, and present critical path schedules and narratives to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with SpaceX managers, supervisors and leads to ensure that program schedules reflect reality and that projects and key deliverables will be completed on time.
  • Facilitate and drive weekly schedule reviews with responsible engineers, ensuring up to date and accurate plans.
  • Quickly understand existing and future projects, assemblies, sequences, and constraints in order to actively de-conflict issues with several teams across multiple sites.
  • Devise, maintain, and improve scheduling tools and processes that identify, analyze, and brief potential constraints on a monthly, weekly and daily basis.
  • Learn our engineering, production, and launch site operations with sufficient depth such that you are able to critically evaluate them and offer process improvements.
  • Maintain and perform schedule risk analysis to identify program criticality and uncertainty.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or 5+ years of professional scheduling experience in the aerospace or defense industry in lieu of a degree.
  • 3+ years of experience with project planning and integrated master scheduling.
  • Experience integrating schedules from third party contractors.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Highly skilled at taking in large quantities of information and presenting it in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working on a cross-functional team.
  • Able to work and communicate well with others in a team environment.
  • Able to be diplomatically persuasive or assertive when necessary.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Experience with medium to large sized project (4000-8000+ lines).
  • Experience with summary schedule reporting tools such as Microsoft Timeline or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Office Timeline, and/or Smartsheet.
  • Coursework or training in Critical Path Analysis methodology.
  • Experience performing schedule risk analysis techniques.
  • Experience analyzing schedules using industry standard health metrics.
  • Understanding of the engineering lifecycle.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision to develop and manage many levels of program plans and schedules simultaneously.
  • Active Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to pursue a clearance if not already cleared. Note that an active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions. If so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be willing to travel (approximately 10%) to other SpaceX locations, as necessary.
  • Must be willing to work long hours and occasional weekends when necessary to support proposal or critical project timelines.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

Master Scheduler: $110,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year.

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. What We Do

SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches the world’s most advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk to revolutionize space transportation, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary.

SpaceX has gained worldwide attention for a series of historic milestones. It is the only private company ever to return a spacecraft from low-Earth orbit, which it first accomplished in December 2010. The company made history again in May 2012 when its Dragon spacecraft attached to the International Space Station, exchanged cargo payloads, and returned safely to Earth — a technically challenging feat previously accomplished only by governments. Since then Dragon has delivered cargo to and from the space station multiple times, providing regular cargo resupply missions for NASA.
