Job Description

How will this role impact First Command?

First Command Financial Services is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to fill the role of Technical Communications Specialist in the Enterprise Transformation Office. In this position, you will be responsible for writing and communication services supporting business transformation initiatives. This includes communications planning, content writing, internal delivery of communications, and building/maintaining libraries of transformation-themed content.

You will collaborate with senior executives and cross-functional teams, including the Chief Operating Officer, Agile development and Information Technology teams and their leaders, as well as representatives of various stakeholder groups across the organization. You will also work closely with First Command's internal communications team to ensure alignment with all company messaging and communications. This is a unique blend of technical writing and the crafting of compelling messages to support the Operations and Transformation leadership team's ability to link technology and business transformation initiatives to First Command strategic objectives.

This role will report to the Vice President of Enterprise Transformation, and work closely with the Operations, Information Technology, and Agile Transformation teams, with the goal of creating and managing the delivery of meaningful narratives that bring First Command's strategy to life as we implement technology-enabled client, advisor, and employee experiences.

The position will be located in Fort Worth, Texas, with an expectation of being in the office two days a week.

What will the employee do in this role?

  • Own the development and delivery of specific communication initiatives, from start to finish, across a wide range of business transformation and technology narratives; specific responsibilities include:
  • Communication initiative planning (tasks, required effort, schedule, quality guidelines, and resource requirements)
  • Identifying and conducting required interviews, research, and analysis
  • Partnering with key stakeholders to incorporate critical message points and conceptualize content within a visual framework
  • Crafting/writing engaging, strategic transformation and technology copy
  • Manage delivery of content/messaging across most appropriate and impactful written and digital channels (email, SharePoint, internal social media platforms, wikis, etc.)
  • Managing feedback and monitoring of communication status and effectiveness
  • Clarify complex technical topics into easy-to-understand messaging for internal audiences
  • Ensure content is error-free, on-brand, and aligned with company standards, messaging, and communications by working with First Command's Internal Communications Team
  • Develop and maintain libraries of digitally accessible content categorized by transformation, technology, and operations themes (including written communications and video of message delivery)
  • Evaluate and organize existing content, messaging, and delivery modes, and develop innovative approaches for improvement



What skills/qualifications do you need?

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field of study


Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of copywriting or content marketing experience



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional technical writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to optimize for different contexts, channels, and multiple audiences
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and presentation skills (oral and written)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a track record of delivering high-quality work within committed time frames and schedules
  • Experience facilitating meetings and capturing notes and actions
  • Ability to interact with senior-level executives
  • Ability to successfully work on multiple projects concurrently (e.g. prioritize work as needed, work with multiple teams and stakeholder groups, etc.)
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts
  • Experience identifying gaps and types of content to be written
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office suite of tools preferred
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, Tableau and appropriate publishing, presentation, and content management tools
  • Experience in Financial Industry and working in an Agile framework a plus
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Working knowledge of documentation development and production processes
