GDIT has an opportunity for a Senior Communications Specialist, in Atlanta, Georgia to join our team supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of the Deputy Director for Science and Surveillance (DPPHSS).

In this role you will be supporting DDPHSS' Communication Team to develop and execute a communication strategy and to write materials in support of internal and external stakeholders. are some of the key responsibilities that will be required in support of DDPHSS.

  • Work with program leadership to implement acommunication strategythat promotes programming and thought leadership to a narrowly defined and broader audience. This will include efforts to research and define the potential audience and craft appropriate messaging for both closed and open groups.
  • Manage and overseebranding, identity, messaging, and narrativefor the program.
  • Define, grow, and increase engagement with the program's audiencevia social media platforms, email lists, and other forms of communication.
  • Contribute to website redesignto better convey the mission, vision, and create a dynamic repository for our knowledge resources - publications and thought leadership.
  • Work with communications team to translate a variety of complex and often technical research and other material into clear, compelling content for an external audience. This may includetweets, blogs, newsletters, press releases, and speeches.
  • Oversee the final production, proofreading, publication, and promotion of content.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement digital toolsto support PSI's programs.
  • Build and manage aneditorial calendarthat encompasses the release of long-form content as well as short-form outputs like case studies and tools.
  • Strategically grow the program's digital/social media presenceincluding writing and posting content as well as being ready to respond to news and spontaneous interactions to increase program's visibility and engagement.
  • Craft and contribute to speeches, op-eds, and talking pointsfor the senior leadership as needed.
  • Develop website content, soliciting updated content from relevant team members and developing new ways to showcase our work and impact.
  • Use analytic tools to track and measure impact and reach.


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills required
  • High level of experience with MS PowerPoint
  • 6-10 years of demonstrated professional experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field
  • Experience working with executive leadership or executive communications is highly desirable
  • Excellent writing skills, a passion for the written word, and a patience for the editorial process to ensure a high-quality finished product
  • A good instinct for storytelling and a strong grasp of what makes for engaging and actionable content
  • Within commuting distance to a CDC badging office. Atlanta GA, Hyattsville MD, New York, NY, Miami, FL, Spokane, WA

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • CDC or Public Health experience strongly preferred
  • CDC/HHS badge (prior or current)
  • Basic graphic design knowledge desired, but not required
  • Superior written, verbal and overall communication skills
  • Experience providing support to executive leadership
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Please be prepared to provide writing samples to support qualifications
  • Creative energy and the ability to come up with new, innovative ideas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, energy, and initiative
  • Works independently with little or no supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational abilities, and time management skills, especially under pressure

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capabilities
  • Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
  • Analyze organizational goals and objectives, operating environment and business processes to determine most efficient methods of accomplishing work.
