What Your Job Will Be Like

If so, Organization 03640, Matrixed Communications Services, is currently seeking Managers to lead Organizations in Communications and Marketing.
Candidates selected will supervise their respective department of approximately 15-22 communications professionals who are functionally aligned to customers throughout the Labs. The staff may include Information Management Professionals, Technical Writers, and Program Communications Specialists, and Graphic Designers.
In this position, one will work closely with both technical program and project leads as well as other matrix managers and all levels of management on either the Mission or Mission Enabling Programs. They will provide direct leadership, expertise in communications, considerable experience managing within matrix environments, technical writing, and information management.
On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Manage professionals in a matrix environment where staff is embedded with the internal teams they support; although the staff formally reports to the functional Communications Manager, they take daily guidance for their work assignments from their customer teams
  • Partner with customer managers of matrixed staff to provide employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, career and professional development, and any corrective or disciplinary actions
  • Manage and coordinate specific deliverables for overall program and project plans, structure, schedules, staffing requirements
  • Balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing future projects or programs
  • Collaborate with other communication managers to develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems



Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, or a related field, plus 8 years related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • 5 years communications experience supporting multiple customers
  • 3 years providing project lead and oversight of customer work
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance



Qualifications We Desire

  • A Master's degree in Communications, Business, or another related field
  • 2 years of experience managing teams in a matrix environment, including experience managing projects, organizations, or product development
  • Communications experience including leading teams in a matrix environment to support multiple customers
  • The ability to work with sensitive information and classified matter
  • A demonstrated ability to:
    • Successfully manage multiple programs and projects, while consistently modeling Sandia's 8 Behaviors
    • Build and manage effective, positive working relationships with customers, staff, and peers
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures, as well as Sandia's safety and security rules and guidelines
  • Expertise in competencies appropriate to Center 03600 and the customer's organization
  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of internal and external customers using exceptional oral and written interpersonal skills
  • The demonstrated ability to manage the organization on tasks, goals, and objectives to execute on the strategic vision
  • Experience in technical writing or a communication field, recruiting, hiring, and developing new personnel

Security Clearance
