Position Description
Toptal is seeking a highly motivated Influencer Marketing Specialist to join our growing Influencer Relations team. Our ideal candidate is looking to further their career in communications and influencer marketing and will view this as an opportunity to learn from and work alongside highly experienced professionals.
You will be a key part of the team responsible for increasing brand visibility and credibility for Toptal. You will be the "engine" that keeps our influencer program running smoothly while you gain valuable communications skills and experience. Specifically, you will assist in all aspects of influencer relations planning and coordination: compiling and maintaining influencer lists, working closely with our Community Manager; pitching and building relationships with influencers both on a day-to-day basis as well as identifying influencers to support key publications and events; managing influencer budgets and output; coordinating and approving influencer content; and liaising with our social media team to amplify influencer content.
You will also work closely with other teams within the Marketing function, specifically our Publications team to help amplify our thought leadership; and you will align with our Social Media team to identify potential influencers and amplify the Toptal content they share. More broadly, there is opportunity to work with the Talent and Community teams to build out and incentivize our internal influencer program.
This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere. Due to the remote nature of this role, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of Influencer Relations planning and coordination.
  • Responsible for compiling and maintaining influencer lists, together with the Community Manager.
  • Actively work on pitching and building relationships with influencers across multiple categories.
  • Create and maintain all influencer communications, including pitch letters, scopes of work, contracts (as needed, etc.).
  • Partner cross-functionally within the broader Marketing team to ensure alignment across all relevant teams.
  • Administratively responsible for managing the relationships with influencers including payments, content distribution, content creation/approvals, and content deadlines.


In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal.
  • Rapidly begin learning about Toptal's history, culture, and vision.
  • Shadow the Influencer Relations team to learn the core of Toptal's operations and capabilities.
  • Understand the fundamentals of Toptal's Influencer Relations, Social Media, Communications, and Publications operations.
  • Gain an understanding of the assets, themes, content and messages available to promote externally.


In the first month, expect to:

  • Go through deeper onboardings in key areas of the company where Influencer Relations is of strategic importance, including beginning to participate in real work with the associated team leads and individual contributors.
  • Acquire practical working knowledge of our tools - e.g., Creator IQ, etc.
  • Update influencer lists as needed.
  • Start building relationships with existing and potential influencers.


In the first three months, expect to:

  • Identify opportunities for new and ongoing influencer relationships.
  • Draft and distribute influencer pitches for review by a senior member of the team.
  • Partner with the Community Manager to monitor for potential influencers and make recommendations for engagement.
  • Participate in and contribute to Toptal's influencer ideation and development process, particularly around large scale publications, announcements and events.


In the first six months, expect to:

  • Engage with the Talent Ambassador program; identify and share content to existing ambassadors.
  • Provide strategic input into influencer activation to support broader marketing initiatives.
  • Participate in strategies to grow the Talent Ambassador program and incentivize participation.
  • Partner with the IR team to create a more sophisticated approach to tracking, measurement and reporting.


In the first year, expect to:

  • Identify new strategies to reach and engage influencers.
  • Build a "bench" of go-to influencers across various Toptal verticals.
  • Liaise with TopShare team lead to determine the Talent Ambassador program should work alongside broader Core Team sharing.
  • Become an active contributing member of the Comms team and the broader marketing team.


Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in influencer relations, community management and social media for hyper-growth companies.
  • Excellent knowledge of influencer relations best practices, brand amplification, and influencer outreach strategies.
  • Solid understanding of the most effective messaging on each social platform (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, etc.).
  • Strong written communication skills and an ability to work with influencers to create content that stays true to the influencer's brand as well as exemplifies the Toptal brand and what we stand for.
  • Experience monitoring social media and identifying potential influencers to flag for the team.
  • Outstanding research skills to help the team understand whether an influencer is an appropriate target and how to best target him/her.
  • Familiarity with Creator IQ or similar tools to build and maintain influencer lists.
  • Top-notch project management skills with an eye toward new approaches or new ways to improve existing processes, particularly around measurement and analytics.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.
  • As part of a fully remote company, must be self-motivating with a focus on producing high caliber, zero-defect work.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills. Must be highly efficient and results-driven.
  • Proactive in all aspects of work and communication to immediate team members and the broader marketing function.
  • Open to receiving and applying feedback and constructive criticism.
