About the role

Shero is looking for a Marketing Technology Engineer to own the setup, implementation, QA, troubleshooting, and ongoing health of tracking and conversion data across our clients’ websites and advertising platforms.

This role is responsible for ensuring that our advertising platforms, analytics tools, ecommerce systems, and CRM platforms receive accurate, high-quality site-wide events and conversion tracking data. The ideal candidate can independently audit an account, identify what is missing or incorrect, implement the right solution, and clearly document how tracking is configured.

This is a hands-on technical marketing role that sits at the intersection of analytics, advertising platforms, ecommerce, privacy, and web development.

Key responsibilities

Tracking and tag management

  • Set up, audit, troubleshoot, and maintain tag management, site-wide event tracking, ecommerce tracking, advertising pixels, and conversion tracking across GTM, GA4, Shopify, and major ad platforms.
  • Build and QA tags, triggers, variables, data layers, custom events, event parameters, and conversion signals using GTM Preview, Tag Assistant, browser developer tools, and platform debugging tools.
  • Define tracking requirements for developers when custom data layers, events, or integrations are needed.
  • Monitor event quality, first-party signals, and tracking architecture to keep implementations clean, accurate, scalable, and well documented.

Analytics and ecommerce measurement

  • Set up, audit, maintain, and QA GA4 implementations across ecommerce and lead generation sites.
  • Configure and validate ecommerce events, custom events, key events, audiences, custom dimensions, cross-domain tracking, and referral exclusions.
  • Validate revenue, transaction IDs, product data, event parameters, and conversion values.
  • Troubleshoot duplicate, missing, or inconsistent data across GA4, Shopify or other ecommerce platforms, CRM systems, and advertising platforms.

Feeds, catalogs, and ecommerce platform connections

  • Manage product feed and catalog tracking connections across ecommerce platforms, Google Merchant Center, Meta Catalogs, Microsoft Merchant Center, TikTok Catalogs, and related platforms.
  • Validate product and variant IDs across feeds, catalogs, and conversion events to support accurate platform matching.
  • Troubleshoot feed, catalog, event matching, or integration issues that impact advertising data.
  • Work with development, merchandising, and marketing teams when feed or catalog issues require cross-functional support.
  • Understand when to use native integrations versus third-party feed partners such as DataFeedWatch, ChannelAdvisor, Feedonomics, and FeedOptimizer.

QA, monitoring, and documentation

  • Proactively monitor tracking health, platform diagnostics, and site changes that may affect event or conversion data.
  • Maintain clear client tracking documentation, known limitations, dependencies, and reusable Shero QA standards.
  • Ensure tracking knowledge is documented and shared across the team.

Required skills and experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, and ecommerce tracking, especially for Shopify or comparable platforms.
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting advertising platform tracking, including Google Ads, Meta, and other major paid media platforms.
  • Understanding of client-side and server-side tracking concepts, including Meta CAPI, Google Enhanced Conversions, Events APIs, or first-party tagging solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues across analytics platforms, ecommerce platforms, advertising platforms, CRM systems, and websites.
  • Strong QA discipline, attention to detail, and ability to document technical systems clearly.
  • Ability to work independently, identify gaps, and recommend the right implementation approach.

Nice-to-have experience

  • Experience with Shopify-focused tracking tools such as Stape, LittleData, Elevar, or Shopify Pixel.
  • Understanding of attribution, conversion data quality, reporting discrepancies, and offline conversion imports.
  • Familiarity with consent management platforms, Google Consent Mode v2, GDPR, CCPA, and how privacy restrictions impact tracking resilience and reporting.
  • Ability to read and interpret event payloads, network requests, JSON, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with CRM, CDP, call tracking, attribution, feed, or catalog platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Segment, Shopify Audiences, CallRail, WhatConverts, Northbeam, Triple Whale, or Google Merchant Center.
  • Experience with BigQuery, CRO, experimentation, or A/B testing instrumentation.

How this role works with other teams

Reporting into the Senior Director of Solutions, this role works closely with paid media, analytics, development, ecommerce, strategy, and client service teams. They translate business and marketing measurement needs into reliable technical tracking implementations, help developers understand what needs to be built, and ensure advertising and analytics platforms are receiving the right signals.

They also help teams understand whether reporting discrepancies are caused by implementation issues, attribution methodology, consent or data loss, platform limitations, or expected differences between systems.

What success looks like

  • Client accounts have accurate, reliable, and well-documented conversion tracking and reporting data.
  • Advertising platforms receive the right conversion signals for optimization.
  • GA4, ecommerce, CRM, and advertising data discrepancies are investigated and explained clearly.
  • Tracking issues are identified proactively and resolved quickly.
  • New website launches, deployments, and platform changes do not break critical tracking.
  • Developers receive clear technical requirements and tracking QA feedback.
  • Shero has repeatable standards, checklists, and documentation for tracking implementations.
  • Tracking knowledge is shared and accessible across the team.

Candidate profile

The right candidate is technical, detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable working across multiple platforms. They enjoy solving complex tracking problems, validating data quality, and building systems that help marketing teams make better decisions. They can communicate clearly with developers, marketers, strategists, and client-facing teams, and they understand that good tracking is both a technical implementation challenge and a business measurement challenge.
