Marketing Specialist, Meetings & Conventions
Reports To: Marketing Director, Meetings and Conventions
Status: Full Time (40+ hours)
FSLA: Exempt
Location: Columbus (Hybrid: Arena District office and work from home)
What You Will Accomplish
The marketing specialist assists and maintains marketing strategies, channels, and activities in direct support of the convention and group sales, customer engagement services, and partnership efforts of the organization.
Responsibilities include:
1. Support Convention Sales efforts
- Update, edit and proof print electronic marketing materials to support convention sales’ marketing goals, such as production of collateral, presentations, BID books, videos, websites, press releases, social content, etc.
- Attend site visits, trade shows and other client-facing meetings and events as needed, within and outside of business hours.
- Assist in development of content planning, development, and capture to support the M&C integrated marketing plan.
- Compile content and deploy monthly convention e-newsletter within customer, relationship managing (CRM) system.
- Produce and deploy convention sales email invitations to clients within CRM and Outlook system.
- Develop, edit and present custom marketing presentations on sales site visits with clients.
- Assist with development and execution of marketing communications plans working with Marketing Director.
- Use approved branding to develop visual assets, BID books, PowerPoints, sales sheets and collateral to expedite design projects and process creative review.
- Serve as marketing liaison for sales department.
2. Develop and manage sales materials and collateral for Destination Services team
- Work with Destination Services team to concept and develop tools, resources and materials for convention planners to attract and service delegates.
- Seek out and present new ideas for materials, tools and communication methods and encourage adoption for consideration by team.
- Manage welcome program materials including window clings, micro-sites, posters, banners, maps, calendar of events, Attendee Savings Pass, etc.
- Manage electronic group welcomes, calendar of events feeds and other appropriate files on downtown screens (ADTV, Nationwide, etc.), with John Glenn Columbus International Airport and for Visitor Centers as well as digital, interactive kiosks.
- Coordinate with event planners or association marketing teams to facilitate collaboration with Experience Columbus’ marketing team in preparation for upcoming conventions or events.
- Serve as marketing liaison for Destination Services department.

Experienced in the following areas (a total of 2-4 years' work experience, personal experience, education or a combination)
- Integrated marketing communications elements, such as public relations, social media, audience analytics, business development principles, and advertising, into a brand identity that remains consistent across distinct media channels.
- Managing the execution and productivity of marketing plans and projects with metrics.
- Highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and demonstrate effective time management skills.
- Graphic design skills desirable; working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, a plus.
- Experience working with landing pages or microsites, a plus.
- Team oriented with the ability to work collaboratively.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products and the Internet.
- Exceptionally attentive to the details.
- Able to think strategically then implement programs.
- Savvy with digital marketing methods and tools, including paid media, social media and general digital communications.
- Passionate about the product (Columbus) and motivated to exceed expectations
- Excited to manage marketing relationships with external partners, including Short North Arts District, Arena District, German Village, and others vital to downtown/convention package development and promotion.

- Traveling from venue to venue within a city and walking distances throughout large buildings for site visits as requested.
- Presenting and projecting voice for community functions, presentations, trade shows, etc.
- Traveling via car or plane to other locations to represent Experience Columbus and Columbus as a destination as needed for tradeshows, site visits, etc.
