Job Summary
The Marketing Director provides strategic leadership and execution oversight for all marketing, branding, communications, and community engagement efforts for the Bank. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy that supports the Bank’s growth goals, brand reputation, customer experience, and community presence, while ensuring compliance with banking regulations.
In a small-company environment, this role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution. The Marketing Director is expected to lead strategy, prioritize work, and manage performance while also personally executing key marketing initiatives and supporting day-to-day marketing activities when needed.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning
• Develop and own the Bank’s annual marketing strategy and roadmap, aligned with organizational strategic goals, growth initiatives, and market opportunities.
• Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, lending, retail, wealth management, and operations teams to support product launches, growth campaigns, and customer acquisition efforts.
• Lead market research, competitive analysis, and customer insights to inform strategic decisions.
• Establish marketing KPIs and dashboards to measure effectiveness, ROI, and impact.
Brand & Reputation Management
• Act as the brand steward for the Bank, ensuring consistency across all channels, locations, communications, and experiences.
• Oversee internal and external communications, including brand messaging, public relations, crisis communications, and reputation management.
• Strengthen and protect the Bank’s standing as a trusted, community-focused financial institution.
Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, coach, and develop the marketing team, setting clear priorities, expectations, and performance goals.
• Provide strategic direction while empowering team members to execute campaigns, communications, events, and content.
• Identify skill gaps and opportunities for training, process improvement, and resource optimization.
• Foster a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented team culture.
Campaigns, Channels, & Execution Oversight
• Oversee integrated marketing campaigns across digital, social, email, branch, events, advertising, and community outreach.
• Ensure marketing automation, lead generation, and nurturing efforts are aligned with sales and growth objectives.
• Guide content strategy, storytelling, and creative direction to ensure relevance and impact.
• Maintain executive-level oversight without replacing specialist-level execution.
• Create and review marketing content across campaigns, digital channels, print materials, and customer communications.
• Manage social media and email marketing campaigns, including planning, content development, scheduling, and performance monitoring.
• Coordinate website updates to ensure content is current, accurate, and aligned with brand and business priorities.
• Write and edit marketing communications, internal announcements, promotional materials, and other brand messaging as needed.
• Support event promotion, sponsorship activation, and community outreach efforts through direct coordination and execution.
• Track campaign performance, prepare reports, and use results to inform recommendations and ongoing marketing improvements.
• Step into day-to-day execution when team size, business priorities, or workload demands require a hands-on approach.
Budget & Vendor Management
• Own the marketing budget, including planning, allocation, and performance tracking.
• Approve and manage relationships with agencies, media partners, designers, printers, and other vendors.
• Ensure projects are prioritized and delivered on time and within budget.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
• Strengthen relationships with Chambers of Commerce, municipalities, nonprofit partners, and community influencers.
• Guide event strategy and sponsorship investments to maximize community impact and brand visibility.
• Represent the Bank at key community and industry events as appropriate.
Compliance & Risk Awareness
• Ensure all marketing and communications comply with applicable banking regulations, brand standards, and internal policies, including BSA and other compliance requirements.
• Partner with compliance and legal teams to mitigate reputational and regulatory risk.
Qualifications and Skills
• Ability to develop and lead marketing strategies aligned with business goals and growth initiatives.
• Strong leadership skills with experience guiding, coaching, and prioritizing work for a marketing team.
• Expertise in brand management and ensuring consistent messaging across all marketing channels.
• Experience overseeing integrated marketing campaigns across digital, traditional, and community channels.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to evaluate marketing effectiveness and inform decisions.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Sound judgment and professionalism in a regulated or risk-aware environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a community-focused, relationship-driven mindset.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field required.
• Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible marketing experience, including leadership or management of people, projects, or functions.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic marketing plans that support organizational goals, growth initiatives, and brand positioning required.
• Experience managing marketing budgets, vendors, and agency relationships required.
• Must have a strong knowledge of integrated marketing practices, including digital marketing, content strategy, social media, email, advertising, community engagement, and brand management.
• Experience in financial services, banking, credit union, or other regulated industries preferred.
• Familiarity with community-based organizations and relationship-focused marketing strongly preferred.
