Manufacturing Engineering Intern - Summer 2027

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern supports manufacturing engineering and operations teams in improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. Under the guidance of an experienced engineer, the intern will apply engineering fundamentals to production processes, equipment, workflows, and data while gaining practical experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Supports hands-on process improvement, problem solving, and documentation activities on the manufacturing floor.

• Partners with manufacturing engineering, operations, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and EHS to complete assigned projects.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Learn and apply the  Ralliant Business System (RBS) lean manufacturing methods to support continuous improvement kaizen events and initiatives.

• Assist with standard work development including time studies, process observations, capacity analysis, line balancing, and workflow evaluation.

• Collect, organize, and analyze manufacturing data to identify trends, constraints, waste, and improvement opportunities.

• Help design or improve fixtures, tooling, gauges, workstations, and material flow solutions using sound engineering practices.

• Create or update basic layouts, drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation using available engineering tools.

• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for process, quality, equipment, and productivity issues.

• Work with operators and technicians to understand process challenges and develop practical, sustainable improvements.

• Prepare project updates, data summaries, recommendations, and final presentations for engineering and operations leadership.

• May be assigned additional projects and responsibilities at the sole discretion of the manager or supervisor.

Education & Experience Required:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Anticipated graduation date between Winter 2026 and Spring 2028

• Minimum 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. on a 4.0 scale

Desired Skills:

• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, and problem-solving methods.

• Ability to collect and analyze data using Microsoft Excel; experience with other analytical or visualization tools is helpful.

• Exposure to CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or a comparable platform is preferred.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with people in production, technical, and office roles.

• Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assigned activities and deadlines.

• Willingness to spend time on the manufacturing floor and learn directly from operators and technical staff.

• Commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and respectful workplace practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and workspace restrictions. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in office areas and may be loud in manufacturing or production areas.

Employees will be required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which may include eye, hearing and respiratory protection, protective smock, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields. Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas.

The associate must also be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation as required for assigned work.
