Job Description
Our hardware team builds the tangible connection to all that is Square. With the Square Card Reader, Stand, Terminal, and Register, our family of devices is growing - and this is only the beginning. As we introduce more and more of our products to the world, our hardware footprint expands.
Our hardware engineers are responsible for designing and developing world class hardware products. They understand the subtleties of user interaction, robust communication interfaces, and smart product design.
Qualifications
You will:

• Become intimately familiar with Square's hardware products and manufacturing processes.
• Research technologies for our next-generation hardware products.
• Analyze test data, prepare test reports, and make recommendations for improvements.
• Write and debug engineering automation software for the factory as well as the lab.
• Assist in developing and implementing test procedures for manufacturing processes and products.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for process optimization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet specifications
• Reach beyond boundaries to make Square's products better wherever you see the chance.

You are:

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related technical field, graduating between May 2024 and June 2026.
• Familiar with Python, MATLAB, or similar programming language
• Knowledgeable of statistics, and have experience utilizing statistical methods for data analysis to derive meaningful insights.
• Eager to apply methodical engineering problem-solving skills to dig into challenges that are outside of your expertise.
• Collaborative and able to effectively work in a team, ask questions, and share information to solve problems.
• Adaptable, with the ability to quickly learn new concepts, technologies, and methodologies, and adjust to changing project requirements or priorities.
• Able to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively conveying technical information to diverse audiences and articulating ideas and findings clearly.
• A methodical thinker: capable of developing and implementing structured procedures and methodologies to ensure accurate testing and evaluation.
• Proactive and take initiative to identify areas for improvement, actively contributing to enhancing processes and products.

Even Better:

• Experience with measurement systems automation.
• Familiar with hardware lab equipment for test and measurement (e.g. oscilloscope, power supply, function generator, spectrum analyzer, DMM, etc.), or prototyping (Soldering, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, 3D printing, powertools, etc.)
• Familiar with the co-existence of multiple technologies in a unified system.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on the candidate's work location and may be may be modified in the future.
