Job Summary
Responsible for performing precision machining operations to manufacture, repair, or modify metal components according to exact specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Machining & Fabrication
- Perform precision machining operations, including drilling, tapping, boring, milling, and lathe work, using horizontal and vertical mills, engine lathes, and horizontal boring mills.
- Set up and execute tool?post grinding operations, broaching procedures, and babbitt bearing work.
- Apply metalizing (metal spraying) techniques as required for component repair or enhancement.
- Use a wide range of handheld and stationary power and non?power tools such as band saws, belt sanders, grinders, and files.
Measurement, Inspection & Documentation
- Record all data necessary to produce accurate service and design results, including measurements, sizing, and illustrations.
- Use measuring devices and techniques correctly to ensure proper dimensions and tolerances.
- Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
- Demonstrate an understanding of materials, their properties, and appropriate applications.
Safety & Work Environment
- Lift, tighten, adjust, and secure heavy objects safely while following all required safety procedures.
- Use proper personal protective equipment at all times, with particular emphasis on eye and ear protection.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard?free work area as directed by the supervisor.
Collaboration & Support
- Assist other machinists with skilled or non?skilled tasks as directed by the manager or lead.
- Support other departments with assigned duties, both skilled and non?skilled.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3 years of experience in manual machining within a manufacturing, repair, or service environment.
- Strong technical skills in operating manual mills, lathes, grinders, and related shop equipment, along with the ability to interpret blueprints, use precision measuring tools, and maintain tight tolerances.
- Proficiency in operating manual mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools and maintaining tight tolerances.
