We are seeking Economists, Financial Economists, and Econometricians who are motivated to address complex applied economics questions. BRG supports the development of its PhD hires through hands-on engagement experience, structured training, and mentorship from senior staff and experts. Our economists work in highly collaborative environments across our Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. offices.

This position requires a highly motivated problem solver with strong analytical abilities, excellent organizational and writing skills, and a desire to collaborate as an integral member of our project teams. Ideal candidates will have prior experience or a strong interest in litigation or economic consulting.

Managing Economists execute and oversee engagement workstreams that may be quantitative or qualitative. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing economic, statistical, and financial analyses.
  • Developing models of financial data and markets.
  • Managing client relationships and developing and presenting client deliverables.
  • Managing and mentoring junior staff.
  • Conducting quality control and industry research and contributing to business development.

This position offers advancement opportunities within a rapidly growing expert services and consulting firm.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in economics from a reputable university, with a research focus in empirical industrial organization, applied economics, microeconomics, econometrics, finance, or labor economics.
  • Experience applying econometric modeling techniques.
  • Prior internship or work experience in antitrust, securities, financial economics, or capital markets is preferred.
  • A strong interest in economic, statistical, or financial analysis and research.
  • Experience using artificial intelligence tools to support research, data analysis, modeling, or other analytical workflows.
  • A strong record of technical expertise demonstrated through authored publications or research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and analytical or relational database software, such as Stata, R, or Microsoft SQL, and a desire to expand those capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, analytical, and leadership skills.

This year, BRG is offering an early decision process for candidates who intend to focus their job search on private-sector economic consulting. To qualify, candidates must expect to complete their PhD by spring 2027 or earlier. The application deadline is October 18, 2026. For candidates following the standard AEA job market timeline, the application deadline is January 31, 2027. First-round interviews will be conducted virtually after the application deadline. Candidates who advance will be asked to present their job market paper and participate in additional interviews with BRG staff and experts at one of the listed offices.

BRG offers a market-leading compensation and benefits package. The base salary for Managing Economists is expected to range from $240,000 to $260,000, depending on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. Employees may also be eligible for a signing bonus and annual performance bonuses, along with a clear path for career growth and advancement.
