The opportunity

The Managing Director will be working with investment professionals with deep sector and regional expertise and will play a key role in making and managing direct investments in the Technology sector.

Who you'll will work with 

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director (SMD), the Managing Director will lead deal teams comprising analysts, associates and principals, supported by third party consultants, operating executives, legal and accounting professionals dedicated to each particular investment.

The individual will have significant prior expertise and a strong track record investing in Technology, particularly in Software with knowledge of emerging AI and digitization themes.  Key focus areas include Application software, Infrastructure software, Digital & IT Services and other Tech-enabled categories.

In certain instances, the Managing Director may also work with colleagues in the London, Singapore or Mumbai offices in evaluating international investment opportunities in a given sector.

What you'll do

  • When evaluating new investments, the Managing Director will lead, with oversight of SMD, a small team determining whether the company represents an attractive investment opportunity. Among other things, the analysis of investments includes conducting industry and company due diligence, creating sophisticated financial models, arranging debt financing, negotiating legal documents, formulating value creation plans (in partnership with operating teams and other lead investors) and preparing written recommendations.

  • Once a transaction has been completed, the Managing Director will remain involved with the business, and will work with our investment partners and the management team to implement value-enhancing initiatives. The Managing Director may be expected to take lead roles at the board and/or sub-committees of the board in some cases. 

  • They will play an active role in origination, identifying target investments and creating a “right to win”, which should include unique value creation levers.  Activities will include conducting desk research, working with consultants, operating executives, attending conferences and trade shows, networking with management teams and meeting with various industry participants. This will require the individual to build high-impact relationships and networks across the Technology investing ecosystem.

  • They will lead sub-sector research and deep dives as the team evolves its coverage strategy and focus areas over time with shifting industry dynamics such as the emergence of AI impacting investment decisions.

  • Collaborate with other Global Sector teams and across Investments on specific departmental initiatives.

  • Seek to lead deals with input and high level of communication from global sector SMD.

What you'll need

  • 15+ years relevant work experience, ideally the most recent experience leading deals in Technology private equity.  Active Technology M&A in a lead role in corporate development would also be considered. Supplemented by previous experiences in management consulting, investment banking and/or corporations (preferably corporate development or similar roles).

  • Tenured private equity investor with a strong track record (technology/software experience strongly preferred). Please include deal sheets with your application.

  • Experience in playing a leading role in the investment process, including conducting due diligence, leading multiple diligence streams such as financial, operational, legal, tax, insurance as well as arranging debt financing and negotiating documentation.

  • Significant experience serving on Boards of Directors

  • Established network of industry professionals, including mid to bulge bracket private equity, senior executives, and advisors.

  • Experience in playing a leading role in the investment process, including conducting due diligence, arranging debt financing and negotiating documentation.

  • Strong negotiation, collaboration and communication skills.

  • An ability to balance priorities, work independently, lead projects and thrive in a high performance team environment.

  • Willingness and ability to travel globally.

Skills Required
