RSG is seeking a leader in our Market Research practice to apply state-of-the-art survey methodologies and domain-specific subject matter expertise to transit customer research. As a leader in the transit market research industry, RSG provides high quality, actionable insights through innovative techniques and data driven approaches. We apply unmatched expertise in quantitative and qualitative transit market research to help public transit agencies across the U.S. understand customer needs, preferences, and travel behavior. Prior experience in transit market research or working for a transit agency strongly preferred for this position but not required.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Managing Consultants are subject matter experts who plan and manage small teams responsible for complex and large-scale project portfolios. They are responsible for the performance of the team and growth of existing portfolios. Managing Consultants have direct project management and work product responsibilities, ensuring on-time and on-budget project delivery with high customer satisfaction and excellent business performance outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

  • Manage project timelines and resources to ensure successful delivery of projects.

  • Oversee project delivery to meet client expectations.

  • Lead contingency planning and issue mitigation (e.g., difficult client conversations).

  • Assist in developing project roadmaps.

  • Perform project-related tasks.

Business Development and Client Relations

  • Identify growth opportunities with existing client organizations and build new client relationships. Understand client needs and contribute to solution development.

  • Maintain knowledge and information about industry trends and best practices to contribute valuable insights to clients and RSG’s planning processes.

  • Participate in activities/industry events to advance the RSG brand.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Lead project teams to execute consulting engagements on-time and on-budget with RSG’s high standard for delivery.

  • Contribute insights to project strategies, considering client objectives and industry trends.

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration within the team.

  • Actively participate in recruitment, selection, managing, mentoring, and developing staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree related to transportation, market research, statistics, math, economics, psychology, geography, engineering, energy, or a similarly relevant field of study.

  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree preferred.

  • 10+ years consulting or agency experience in relevant domain.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to lead and manage professional consulting teams delivering large-scale, complex projects.

  • Strong track record of driving accountability for team performance, quality, and client outcomes.

  • Experience overseeing multiple teams and project portfolios to deliver work within scope, schedule, and budget, while maintaining high client satisfaction.

  • Ability to adapt plans, priorities, and resource allocations in response to changing business and operational conditions.

  • Demonstrated leadership mindset focused on quality, innovation, and sustainable growth.

  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to independently solve complex problems in alignment with organizational policies and business plans.

  • Experience providing professional and technical guidance to staff, colleagues, and clients.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead collaboration across functional areas to deliver work products, resolve issues, and develop new solutions/services.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage and develop people (e.g., performance and developmental goal setting, delivering performance feedback, participating in pay decisions, and productively participating in disciplinary action).

  • Proficiency in conducting analyses using statistical packages, databases and spreadsheets, e.g., SPSS, Python, SQL, R, and/or Excel.

  • Strong professionalism, executive presence, and presentation skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical materials clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated success building and sustaining client relationships that generate new and repeat business.

  • Well-established professional network that supports business development efforts.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires periodic travel.

  • Involves prolonged periods of sitting or standing while working at a computer.

  • Regular use of standard office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, or computer printer.

  • Frequent communication with colleagues and clients, requiring the ability to exchange accurate information in verbal and written formats.
