The Role
Americas Styrenics is a leading integrated producer of styrene monomer and polystyrene.

The Maintenance Manager, located in St. James, Louisiana, is tasked with overseeing the effective and efficient maintenance of the St. James Plant to ensure that the facility meets its production, reliability, and cost goals so that it remains competitive in the global market.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the completion of routine maintenance and turnarounds so the site can achieve the highest level of safety, process safety, and environmental performance
  • Oversee and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance including turnarounds
  • Oversee and improve the planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance work
  • Ensure good job plans are developed and all materials needed for the job are ordered, onsite, and organized/staged prior to the start of work
  • Oversee and optimize materials and spare parts kept onsite
  • Own and manage the contracts for the nested, in-house maintenance contractors – periodically review the performance, contract scope, organization structure, rates, etc. to make sure they remain relevant and appropriate and that the contractors are performing up to expectations; develop and implement action plans to improve performance
  • Oversee the use of the contractor timekeeping and cost management software, currently myTrack from Management Controls, Inc.
  • Improve and optimize preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance while reducing reactive maintenance
  • Improve the mean time between failure (MTBF) for fixed, rotating, and instrument/electrical equipment at the facility
  • Elevate the skills of the employees and contractors working in the maintenance department
  • Ensure that the Maintenance Department has the proper tools & training to perform quality repairs safely, efficiently, and effectively
  • Improve maintenance work processes
  • Optimize the Maintenance Department organization structure to improve effectiveness
  • Oversee the planning and execution of turnarounds – implement improvements to the turnaround work process
  • Improve cost forecasting, tracking, and control
  • Develop the annual maintenance budget including turnarounds and expense projects
  • Monitor and control maintenance costs to meet the annual budget
  • Establish metrics to track performance of the Maintenance Department
  • Benchmark maintenance performance and develop/implement plans to close identified gaps

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree
  • 7+ years of experience working in a chemical plant and/or refinery required
  • Extensive experience (10+ years minimum) as a Maintenance and/or Reliability Engineer at a refinery, petrochemical, or chemical plant preferred - styrene, ethylene, or refinery plant experience a plus
  • Strong commitment to personnel and process safety
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communications skills
  • Excellent ability to convey knowledge (teaching, coaching, communicating, and documenting)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated people management experience preferred
  • High level of initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Microsoft products, SAP, maintenance management software, etc.)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis

  • Manage a staff of 7 direct reports and 15 indirect reports plus contractors which include:
  • Turnaround Manager
  • Maintenance Engineer
  •    Maintenance Work Activity Coordinators (3)
  •    Maintenance Controls Systems Coordinator
  •    Tack Administrator
