The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end-to-end development for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The team drives innovation at scale for millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search, messaging and data.
As a Manager on the Core Content Technologies engineering team you will lead your group in building and managing systems that provide dynamic content management for many of Disney Entertainment's brands. These include ABC News, ABC Entertainment, Disney Parks and Resorts, Marvel, National Geographic and Disney Studios. This group also owns content ingestion from many internal and 3rd party sources, publishing pipelines and complex image services. You will set the tone for a fast paced, passionate squad charged with unlocking highly engaging interactive content experiences at high scale.
You will apply your proven engineering chops to help lead the design, development, test and deployment of first-rate, innovative software solutions. You will also lead your team in achieving operational excellence for systems underpinning applications used by millions of Disney Entertainment fans every day. You will leverage excellent communication skills while interfacing with both technical and product stakeholders to gather and fulfill new system requirements.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead a team delivering high quality, scalable software platforms
  • As needed lead the design of new functionality, review code and/or technical designs
  • Facilitate the reliable planning, estimation and delivery of your team's work


WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Minimum 8+ years of professional experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience directly leading or managing a team
  • Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and/or complex systems
  • Hands on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar cloud service
  • Deep understanding of Java programming (or similar object-oriented language)
  • Proven ability to decompose complex problems into discrete software deliverables
  • Self-starter with consistent track record of delivering high quality software in a pragmatic fashion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences


NICE-TO-HAVES

  • 10+ years of professional experience
  • Experience communicating architecture, roadmap, and product objectives to engineers and gathering feedback for stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to delegate work and focus on solving management problems.
  • Experience driving complex and high-profile projects without overextending personal health or well-being of your team.
  • Experience working on highly scalable, real-time software platforms
  • Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar cloud service
  • Experience implementing and optimizing complex cloud software installations and infrastructure


REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
The hiring range for this position in California is $164,500-$220,600 per year and in Washington is $172,300 - $231,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
