Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Science the Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing the analysis, design, programming, debugging, modification, and delivery of software for commercial and end user applications. The Manager builds relationships and provides services to meet the needs of clients and takes responsibility for improving processes that are negatively affecting customer satisfaction. The Manager analyzes trends in technology and assesses the impact they have on the business providing solutions to address technology and business issues. 

This individual will also be responsible for the development and translation of business requirements into functional specifications for internal and external clients. They anticipate and analyze new trends in technology, assess the impact of emerging technologies on the business, provide solutions to address technology and business issues, and manage financial and technology resources of the company while ensuring the development of high-quality technology solutions. They will be the primary liaison between the data science development team and all other business groups including engineering, information management, product management, product services, and senior management and will be called upon to serve in multiple roles in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial corporate environment.

The role will be responsible for building and overseeing a team with a diverse set of skills and will be expected to goal set, appraise, develop, and perform day-to-day coaching. The role will also be required to carry out other duties, projects, or activities as specified by their management.

Role qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of study or the equivalent in documented work experience
  • 8+ years of relevant technical and business experience in IT systems development management in a technology and/or health care environment 
  • 2+ years of experience managing teams and products in an Agile environment 
  • Background in software development
  • Ability to establish and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external clients/vendors 
  • Proven understanding of the software development life cycle 
  • Proven understanding of web development methodologies, application design, navigation, and information architecture 
  • Proven understanding of data modeling, relational databases, data structures and design 
  • Ability to launch and deliver multiple, concurrent IT projects on time and within budget

  • Responsible for the corporate functional relationships of all team members that report to you 
  • You will be working with both internal and external teams to deliver solutions based on the proposed roadmap 
  • Leading overall delivery responsibilities and proactively working to reduce roadblocks the teams may encounter 
  • Analyzing trends in technology and assessing the impact of how the emerging technologies may impact product delivery
  • Pioneering Availity’s Data Science and AI focused teams with a focus on driving automation and helping users understand their next best action
  • Managing diverse requirements, negotiate, and effectively articulate rationale and vision behind technical decisions that support the business
  • Partnering closely with Product, Engineering and Design leadership to drive impact throughout the product development process with research and data
