Note: This role is based in Shenzhen and will require the incumbent to be based onsite, 5 days a week.

Your Adventure Ahead

  • Utilize Machine Learning: Own and drive the roadmap to enhance our products and improve the shopping experience for both users and merchants. This includes leveraging machine learning in areas such as recommendations, personalization, risk, fraud detection, search, and more.
  • Roadmap Ownership: Drive the roadmap and execute initiatives with or without a dedicated Product Manager.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Be a subject matter expert in a specific ML domain while maintaining a solid understanding of product and user challenges.
  • Handle Ambiguity: Navigate and resolve ambiguous problem definitions effectively.
  • Metrics Driven: Understand critical business and product metrics, apply the right tools and technologies, and drive efforts to positively influence those metrics.
  • Promote Data Awareness: Cultivate a data-aware culture by using data to develop metrics, uncover insights, and detect patterns. Conduct both offline and online experiments, and assess their outcomes using data.
  • Experimentation Culture: Foster a fast-paced, high-iteration experimental culture to test and refine solutions quickly.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Leadership: Be both highly technical and an effective people manager.
  • Team Performance: Measure the impact of your team, set clear goals and expectations, and communicate them effectively.
  • Performance Management: Recognize individual contributions, ensure team members meet expectations, and handle performance management seriously and thoughtfully.

Essentials to Succeed

  • 5+ years of machine learning experience in the internet industry, with expertise in modeling and statistical modeling
  • 3+ years of experience managing high-performance teams.
  • Significant prior success as a machine learning engineer, solving challenging problems at scale.
  • English fluency, both in written and verbal communication, is required for effective collaboration within cross-functional and international teams.
  • Full-stack experience in data collection, aggregation, analysis, visualization, productization, and monitoring of machine learning products.
  • Experience with massive data processing platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • Strong skills in Python, machine learning, and deep learning libraries (Pytorch and Tensorflow)
  • An understanding of the value derived from getting results early and iterating
  • Strong desire to solve tough problems with scientific rigor at scale
  • Passion to answer Product/Engineering questions with data
