About the Role

As an Engineering Manager at Remitly, you are a builder, innovator and a leader, responsible for taking on complex technical and customer challenges and creating great products backed by great systems. We use cutting-edge languages, tools, and frameworks to build applications and services based on scalable cloud architecture. Our startup work environment is fast-paced, mission-driven, and growing quickly.

As part of the Global Money Movement team (GMM), you'll help build a state-of-the-art integration platform that is highly scalable, robust, and capable of supporting rapid network expansion and thus, embrace the ideology of integration-as-a-service. You'll be working with a passionate cross-functional team of analysts, product managers, and engineers dedicated to understanding our platform and business needs. 

To succeed in this role, you should enjoy being in a startup environment and working hands-on with others across the company. You know how to make good short and long-term trade-offs to enable a quick test-and-learn cycle while not sacrificing performance and user experience. You have the desire to continuously improve and grow your own technical skills and scope or influence.

You Will

  • You'll work within the global money movement domain and lead a team set out to build an integration platform; core components, capabilities and building blocks needed by any product or business line towards rapid expansion of our partner network

  • Provide Technical Leadership and lead complex, long-term, cross-team engineering efforts.

  • Partner with product managers to understand requirements, translate these requirements into technical tasks, and ensure the engineering team delivers the expected outcome.

  • You'll work in a data-centric organization setting up measurable experiments around your work.

  • Set the technical vision for the integration platform team and partner with engineers of other teams to set a broader technical vision

  • Set a high bar for planning and execution, including quarterly objective definition, resource allocation, and re-prioritization when necessary

  • You explain the options and tradeoffs between schedule, features, and quality across interdependent systems, and make sound technical decisions

  • You will deploy your expertise in technical writing, distributed systems architecture, coding, and software development processes to achieve amazing things for the team.

  • Be a role model in upholding Remitly's cultural values and use them as a framework to mentor other engineers across the company to achieve their full potential.

  • You will help set and hire against a high engineering talent bar for the team.

  • Advocate for the engineering team on a company-wide audience.

  • Manage the system of work of one product team with a DevOps mindset.

You Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree or experience.

  • Typically 8+ years of experience, including:

  • Typically 1-3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.

  • Typically 1-3 years of experience leading core engineering efforts / technical teams / distributed teams

  • Experience defining and influencing technical designs and processes across a team.

  • An understanding of software development practices, system design, software design patterns, and algorithms.

  • Familiarity with technologies used in the project (one or more) Java, JavaScript, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, PHP, SQL and NoSQL databases, AWS.

  • Experience building diverse, empowered teams.

  • Platform-oriented & data-driven approach

  • Experience working with teams shipping full-stack features or products, is a nice bonus

Compensation Details: The starting base salary range for this position is typically $180,000 - $225,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
