Tempus is looking for a hardworking, ambitious Manager, Revenue Accounting to lead its growing revenue operations in Chicago. This position will play a key leadership role in managing revenue accounting under ASC 606 across our clinical diagnostics and enterprise data licensing streams, overseeing the revenue month-end close process, and managing revenue team members.
Job Duties:
Manage and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close process for revenue, ensuring accurate and timely journal entries, deferred revenue accounting, and unbilled receivables.
Lead the review of complex customer contracts across Data, AI Applications, and Diagnostics to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment under ASC 606 (performance obligations, SSP allocation, variable consideration, and contract modifications).
Review and approve revenue GL transactions, complex deferred revenue schedules, and monthly account reconciliations.
Oversee the preparation of revenue-related schedules, footnote disclosures, and audit workpapers for quarterly SEC filings (10-Q/10-K) and SOX 404 internal control compliance.
Manage day-to-day revenue accounting operations, billing system integration, and research of technical accounting memos for strategic customer arrangements.
Partner with the Controller, Revenue Senior Manager, and Systems team to identify, design, and implement automated solutions for billing and revenue data pipelines to drive increased efficiencies.
Work cross-functionally with key leadership teams across Commercial Sales, FP&A, Legal, and Diagnostics Billing to ensure smooth deal execution and accurate revenue alignment.
Lead, mentor, and directly manage staff and senior revenue accountants, supporting their ongoing professional growth and performance development.
Conduct ad-hoc technical revenue analysis and management reports to support executive leadership requests.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong focus on revenue accounting (ASC 606) or technical revenue auditing in public accounting
2+ years of direct people management or supervisor experience leading revenue accounting teams
Big 4 experience strongly preferred
CPA license (active) required
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
Expert technical working knowledge of ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and GAAP, ideally with experience in SaaS, Data Licensing, or Healthcare Diagnostics
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced MS Excel skills (Logical Formulas, Lookups, Pivot Tables)
An eye for details, exceptional leadership presence, and the ability to deliver accurate output in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational skills and proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional projects
A champion for data accuracy, internal controls, and financial reporting quality
Thrives in a demanding, high-growth, fast-paced environment
NetSuite / ARM (Advanced Revenue Management) or large ERP system experience preferred
