The Role
The Quality Engineering Manager (QE Manager) is responsible for managing our dedicated quality engineering team and overseeing the Linus Health Engineering quality program. The QE Manager will collaborate with key stakeholders to define and execute plans for measuring and improving code quality, ensure our product meets the specified design and functionality requirements, propose process and architecture changes to improve testing efficiency, and lead efforts to minimize manual testing in favor of automated test suites.
Working Hours
Linus Health is a distributed company with a headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts and many remote employees across numerous time zones. Linus Health fully supports those who wish to work remotely, and to facilitate collaboration with all team members we do ask for a core set of working hours of 9am to 5pm eastern time.
What You’ll do:
- Actively manage a team of automation engineers and manual testers
- Implement and uphold quality assurance processes, guidelines, and best practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle
- Partner with key stakeholders to define quality measurements and influence overall strategy to improve and maintain the quality of our software
- Analyze quality metrics regularly, identifying areas for improvement and driving the necessary corrective/preventive measures.
- Participate in the feature development process, ensuring quality remains a top priority from the start.
- Encourage iteration over perfection and decisiveness instead over-analysis to hit our quality objectives
- Communicate quality responsibilities and scope clearly for the Engineering organization and the dedicated quality team.
- Provide hands-on leadership and technical guidance, coaching both manual testers and automation engineers to help them develop their skills and progress in their careers
- Ensure quality best-practices are followed by the team and provide actionable and timely feedback to team members.
- Define performance objectives and development plans for team members and ensure alignment with department objectives.
- Identify hard-to-test areas of the product and coordinate with architects and developers to refactor existing code/systems to improve testability.
- Work with product representatives to highlight key areas of the customer experience and ensure appropriate testing is established to minimize risk of a defect.
- Participate in regulatory signoff of our medical device
About You
Must Have:
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent software engineering experience.
- Experience building and running a Quality Engineering team in an Agile environment with at least 3 direct reports or serving as a technical lead and mentor on a Quality Engineering team
- Experience with globally distributed teams
- Experience with testing of mobile applications (iOS) or web applications
- Experience working with both manual testers and automation engineers
- Experience advocating for and building an engineering quality program into the software development lifecycle from initial ideation to production monitoring.
- Experience with software quality assurance methodologies, tools, best practices, and quantitative measurements to define and guide successful implementation of a quality program.
- Hands-on experience with Selenium, Appium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar
- Hands-on experience writing node, java, or python code for internal tooling
- Hands-on experience testing JavaScript and NodeJS systems
- Excellent communication and relationship skills

- The base salary budgeted for this position for someone based in the US is in the $145,000-170,000 range per year. For someone based in Canada, the salary budgeted for this role is in the 145-175K(CAD) range yearly. The role will also include an annual discretionary bonus target based on performance as well as company equity. The final offer determined for a candidate who is hired into this position will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidates relevant skills, professional experience and labor market conditions, etc.
