About the Role
As the Quality Engineering Lead – Cloud Platform, you will define and drive the quality engineering strategy for the Cloud Platform and help raise quality across the products that build on it.
You will establish quality standards and test policies, common test harnesses and tooling, quality metrics and dashboards, environment promotion gates, and release management and readiness governance. You will work across Engineering, Product, Platform, Security, and Operations to drive consistent quality practices and improve release confidence.
What You Will Do
Set quality standards and test policy and drive consistent adoption across platform and product engineering teams.
Establish common test harnesses and tooling for API, integration, compatibility, performance, reliability, and cross-product testing.
Define quality metrics and dashboards that make regression health, performance, reliability, escaped defects, and release quality measurable and visible.
Set promotion gates by environment, defining the quality and readiness criteria required for software to progress toward production.
Own release management and readiness, coordinating releases across teams and governing release risks, dependencies, and exceptions.
Drive quality improvement across product teams, identifying systemic gaps and influencing engineering leaders and teams to improve quality practices.
Continuously evolve quality practices using production incidents, customer-impacting issues, metrics, and retrospectives.
Required Experience
12+ years of experience in quality engineering, SDET, software engineering, test automation, or related engineering disciplines.
Proven experience establishing and driving quality engineering strategy across multiple engineering teams or products.
Experience defining quality metrics, release-readiness criteria, environment promotion gates, and release processes across multiple teams.
Experience establishing shared test automation frameworks, harnesses, test data capabilities, and quality tooling.
Hands-on Experience with API and test automation technologies such as Playwright, or equivalent frameworks.
Experience with performance, scalability, and reliability testing using technologies such as JMeter, Gatling, or equivalent, including establishing performance baselines.
Strong understanding of AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
Experience using observability technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Dynatrace, or equivalent to understand system health and quality.
Strong collaborative and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to align cross-functional teams—including engineering, product, and operations—around shared quality goals.
Preferred Experience
Experience with large-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms on AWS.
Experience driving adoption of quality standards, tooling, and engineering practices across multiple teams, building alignment and influencing across organizational boundaries.
Experience with resilience testing or chaos engineering for distributed systems.
Experience leading complex releases involving multiple products, services, and engineering teams.
Experience leading, mentoring, or building teams of Quality Engineers and SDETs.
Experience establishing quality practices in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments.
What Does Success Look Like
In this role, success means:
Product and platform teams have clear quality standards and take accountability for meeting them.
Teams use common test harnesses, tooling, metrics, and performance baselines to consistently measure and improve quality.
Software progresses between environments based on clear, measurable promotion gates rather than subjective release decisions.
Platform releases are predictable and production-ready, with risks and exceptions explicitly understood and governed.
Production regressions decrease, and you become a trusted quality engineering leader who drives improvement across organizational boundaries.
