Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY
 

The Manager of Education & Training provides leadership and oversight for vocational education and workforce training programs within the Goodwill Academy and Career Services. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction, curriculum implementation, participant learning, workforce readiness preparation, training completion, and industry-recognized credential attainment.

In alignment with Goodwill’s mission of Changing Lives through the Power of Work, the Manager of Education & Training helps individuals build the skills, confidence, credentials, and workplace behaviors necessary to obtain employment, advance in their careers, and achieve long-term economic stability.

This role oversees instructional staff, classroom operations, academic compliance, participant outcomes, and continuous improvement efforts to ensure training programs are effective, employer-aligned, and responsive to community workforce needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations and instructional quality of vocational education and workforce training programs within Goodwill Academy.
  2. Ensure curriculum implementation, classroom instruction, and training delivery align with industry standards, employer expectations, credentialing requirements, and Goodwill’s mission and workforce development goals.
  3. Supervise instructors, trainers, and assigned education staff, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, classroom observations, and professional development.
  4. Foster a participant-centered learning environment that promotes engagement, accountability, confidence, professionalism, and workforce success.
  5. Monitor participant progress, attendance, retention, training completion, credential attainment, and workforce readiness development.
  6. Collaborate with Student Success Coaches, Career Services staff, and Workforce Development teams to support participant retention, barrier reduction, and successful transition into employment opportunities.
  7. Ensure training programs maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, accrediting, and funding requirements, including Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), NCCER, TXDOT, and other program-specific standards.
  8. Oversee testing, certification, licensure preparation, and credential tracking for all assigned training programs.
  9. Maintain training schedules, instructional calendars, classroom utilization plans, and program supply inventories across Academy campuses.
  10. Monitor and analyze program performance metrics including enrollment, attendance, completion, certification attainment, participant satisfaction, employment readiness, and other workforce outcomes.
  11. Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies to strengthen instructional quality, participant success, operational effectiveness, and employer responsiveness.
  12. Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum, instructional materials, and workforce readiness content to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  13. Support the integration of workplace success skills, professionalism, communication, teamwork, reliability, and continuous improvement principles into vocational training programs.
  14. Conduct research and analyze labor market trends, workforce needs, and employer expectations to help inform program planning and future training opportunities.
  15. Build and maintain partnerships with employers, workforce partners, educational institutions, and community organizations to strengthen training opportunities and participant outcomes.
  16. Support participant issue resolution related to classroom performance, conduct, attendance, and academic success while promoting a culture of dignity, accountability, and support.
  17. Maintain accurate program documentation, reports, policies, procedures, work instructions, and training records.
  18. Participate in strategic planning, program development, accreditation preparation, grant implementation, and workforce development initiatives designed to expand Goodwill’s education and training impact within the community.
  19. To accommodate business needs and objectives, other duties may be assigned by leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, Workforce Development, Human Services, Organizational Development, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Seven years of experience in vocational education, workforce development, adult education, training management, instructional leadership, or related field required.
  3. Experience overseeing instructional programs, curriculum implementation, classroom operations, and training staff performance.
  4. Knowledge of adult learning principles, workforce readiness competencies, career pathways, vocational education standards, and industry-recognized credentials.
  5. Knowledge of workforce development systems, labor market trends, employer engagement strategies, and high-demand career pathways preferred.
  6. Experience monitoring and improving performance outcomes including enrollment, retention, completion, certification attainment, and participant success metrics.
  7. Skilled in coaching and supporting diverse populations while promoting participant growth, accountability, dignity, and opportunity.
  8. Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
  10. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and workforce/program management databases.
