This role reports to the Director, Controller – Japan, and leads two Senior Accountants in Corporate Accounting. The Manager partners closely with the Japan Finance team and collaborates across Nike Japan, including Marketing, Sports Marketing, Store Development, Supply Chain, and Global Places & Services (GPS), to strengthen financial alignment and operational excellence.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Nike is looking for a Manager, Corporate Accounting to join the Japan Corporate Accounting team. This leader brings strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to accurate, timely financial reporting. The role is responsible for maintaining a strong control environment, driving process improvements, and enabling financial transparency across a dynamic and evolving business.
- Minimum of 5–6 years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or a multinational company, with experience in Selling, General & Administrative (SG&A), intercompany, treasury, and tax accounting under United States and Japan Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP and Japan GAAP) preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, strongly preferred with Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional qualification
- Ability to translate business requirements into practical solutions while identifying and addressing financial risks and controls across end-to-end processes
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead priorities, and deliver high-quality results across multiple workstreams
- Process-oriented, forward-thinking mindset with a record of driving meaningful transformation and continuous improvement
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Japanese, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with local and global stakeholders
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
You will lead an accurate and timely month-end close while continuously improving the efficiency and effectiveness of corporate accounting and financial reporting processes. You will strengthen financial controls, drive process excellence, and partner with managed service providers supporting corporate accounting operations across Asia Pacific Latin America (APLA).
- Ensure key financial assertions are met by building and maintaining a robust control framework across corporate accounting transaction streams. You will oversee internal controls over financial reporting and accounting for Fixed Assets, Leases, Accruals, Intercompany transactions, the General Ledger, Treasury, and Tax.
- Evaluate evolving business models and determine appropriate accounting treatment for Brand Marketing, Sports Marketing, wages, and other Selling, General & Administrative (SG&A) activities.
- Build trusted, collaborative relationships across teams, functions, and organizational levels while applying deep expertise in US GAAP and corporate accounting.
- Partner closely with the Senior Accountants and managed service provider to improve the speed, quality, and effectiveness of the month-end close process.
- Collaborate with the APLA Corporate Accounting team to advance global controlling initiatives, including standardization, automation, and centralization.
Skills Required
