The Manager, Compliance Assurance leads the comprehensive Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) and Product Stewardship (PS) audit strategy and process. Accountabilities include all phases from identifying priority operations for auditing using a risk-based approach, working with key stakeholders to develop the overall plan, staffing the audit teams with internal and external auditors, managing the execution of the audits, reporting the results of the process, and working with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The Compliance Assurance Center of Expertise (COE) is a governance function responsible for managing the EHS and Product Stewardship Compliance Audit Programs. This team acts as audit team leaders, providing consistency and standardization across the internal audit programs. PPG's internal audit program was established at the direction of the Executive Committee. The primary objective of the audit program is to conduct independent compliance evaluations of PPG's global operations against regulatory and internal PPG requirements and standards. As a member of the Compliance Assurance COE, you will report to the Compliance Assurance Director.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in annual audit planning to select and notify PPG operations to be audited.
Act as the Audit Team Leader on 15 – 20 EHS and Product Stewardship audits.
Coordinate logistics of audit schedules comprised of internal and external resources.
Conduct auditor selection of internal auditors and external consultant auditors.
Work with the internal purchasing team to negotiate the scope of work, pricing, and the selection of external consultant auditors to support the annual audit schedule.
Pre-audit organization, audit team preparation, post-audit follow-up, and audit finding tracking to closure.
Present audit findings to the facility and regional EHS, SBU, Product Stewardship and corporate EHS leadership; Formally report audit results to PPG's Executive Leadership and key stakeholders.
Maintain the audit database and internal SharePoint site to ensure that key information is up to date and effectively communicated.
Assemble and analyze EHS audit metrics to ensure the effectiveness of the EHS audit program and identify key areas for continuous improvement.
Represent PPG with external organizations such as the International Audit Practice Consortium (IAPC) and others as well as benchmarking with peer companies to identify leading innovations and best practices for use in PPG.
Develop and lead other EHS audit activities including auditor training and qualification, data analysis and focus topic management, and implementing specialized audits based on risk to the corporation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety Science, Environmental Health, Chemistry, Engineering or related degree.
10 or more years of relevant experience.
Ability to lead an efficient team focused on delivering accurate and detailed findings related to non-compliance of regulatory or PPG Requirements; Effective interpersonal and team-building skills are essential.
Working knowledge of EHS/PS legal framework; Demonstrated EHS or Product Stewardship auditing experience is desirable.
Prior experience with management systems such as TQM, ISO14001, ISO45001.
Networking, influencing, and conflict resolution skills, with a strong focus on deliverables.
Proven ability to collaborate with all levels of a global organization.
Bilingual capabilities are desirable.
25 - 40% travel to PPG locations worldwide is expected.
