About the roleWe are seeking an ambitious manager to lead and develop our Background Check Specialist team. In this pivotal role, you will not only oversee the daily operations of background check adjudication and data privacy initiatives but also be directly responsible for the growth, performance, and well-being of your specialists. You will be instrumental in fostering a high-performing, resilient team that navigates sensitive information with the utmost discretion and integrity, ensuring a secure and trustworthy environment on the Thumbtack platform.
What you'll do- Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team: Directly manage, mentor, and coach Background Check Specialists, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth.
- Oversee Background Check Operations: Ensure the efficient and accurate adjudication of background check results for our professionals, maintaining consistency in eligibility decisions.
- Manage Identity Verification & Data Privacy: Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely processing of data deletion and retrieval requests in compliance with consumer rights and U.S. privacy laws.
- Strategic Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with Legal, Sales, Support, and other key cross-functional teams to align on background check and data privacy policies, processes, and training initiatives.
- Operational Excellence & Performance Management: Set clear team objectives (OKRs/KPIs), monitor performance, provide constructive feedback, and report on team success and operational insights to senior leadership.
- Relevant Experience: 2-4 years relevant experience demonstrating leadership in Trust and Safety, Law Enforcement, Legal, Compliance or other fields required
- Communication Skills: Demonstrated communication and interpersonal competence, enabling you to appropriately communicate with various audiences such as customers, pros, internal teams, and cross-functional partners
- Problem-Solving and Adaptability: A dedicated leader with a strong desire for learning, self-driven, and possessing critical thinking skills for effective problem-solving
- Collaboration and Resilience: Strong collaboration skills, self-motivated, resilient, and receptive to feedback and shifting priorities. Strong sense of urgency and ownership
- Program Management: Experience perpetuating structures, systems, and processes that build toward efficiency and high-quality user experience
- For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $112,300 - $145,300.
- For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $101,100 - $130,800.
- For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $95,500 - $123,500.
Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
