Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking a Manager, AI and Data Governance Operations to support responsible AI adoption and information management.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Information Governance, the manager serves as the central coordinator for AI and data governance across Innovation, IT, Information Security, Privacy, General Counsel, and business owners. The role leads IG’s information and privacy compliance activities and coordinates assessments, evidence, remediation, and reporting across accountable teams.

Each functional owner remains responsible for policies, decisions, controls, and enforcement within its area. Innovation leads AI implementation and adoption; Security leads security assessments and technical security requirements; IT handles day-to-day platform and service administration. General Counsel provides legal interpretation, and business owners validate data and fitness for use. Authorized firm leaders approve exceptions and accept risk through established processes.

Key Responsibilities

AI Governance Coordination

  • Coordinate AI governance procedures and policy updates with functional owners, documenting responsibilities and routing approvals through established firm processes
  • Coordinate reviews of AI tools, connectors, agents, integrations, and material changes within existing intake and delivery processes; conduct IG assessments and consolidate other teams’ findings
  • Engage Innovation, IT, Security, Privacy, and business sponsors early to identify requirements and align review timelines with project priorities
  • Agree on remediation owners, completion criteria, and dates; track progress and escalate unresolved findings
  • Document applicable requirements and accountable owners with General Counsel and other specialists, relying on each function for its assessments and conclusions
  • Develop reusable review criteria with functional owners to make assessments consistent and timely
  • Manage assigned IG staff and personally perform assessments, evidence reviews, and issue resolution
  • Coordinate governance evidence for client inquiries, audits, and outside counsel guideline reviews
  • Monitor AI governance developments and recommend relevant updates with subject matter experts
  • Support Innovation’s implementation and adoption efforts by resolving information governance requirements and dependencies

Data Governance and Lifecycle Management

  • Develop information governance standards with relevant owners for classification, appropriate access and use, retention, and information protection
  • Work with department leaders to document data owners, stewards, and approved uses of information
  • Coordinate privacy, access, retention, preservation, and disposition requirements with responsible teams, including information used by AI and transferred during partner transitions

Data Quality and Stewardship

  • Help business owners define data quality expectations and document information sources and limitations for AI use cases
  • Coordinate data quality remediation; business owners validate accuracy and fitness for use, while IT implements system and integration changes
  • Support data stewards in improving information maintenance and preventing recurring quality issues

Stakeholder Coordination and Enablement

  • Maintain IG’s work plan aligned with firm portfolio priorities and agreed responsibilities and timelines
  • Communicate requirements and escalate policy questions, exceptions, and unresolved risks to accountable owners and authorized leaders
  • Partner with training and support teams to explain approved uses, information handling requirements, and user responsibilities

Controls and Ongoing Oversight

  • Define IG requirements for classification, access, retention, and DLP with relevant owners; review supporting evidence while Security and IT assess, implement, and operate their assigned controls
  • Maintain governance records in the shared AI inventory, including uses, data sources, owners, review findings, approvals, and exceptions
  • Coordinate periodic reviews and reassessment when data sources, access, capabilities, or service status change

Governance Tools and Reporting

  • Translate information governance requirements into platform workflows with IT, which owns day-to-day administration, configuration, and operational support
  • Consolidate owners’ compliance findings and report outstanding issues, remediation progress, and review timeliness to the IG Director and designated firm leaders
  • Provide governance readiness findings to designated release owners and confirm that ongoing control, review, and support responsibilities are assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business, Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in information governance, data governance, information protection, or related technology operations
  • Experience translating information governance requirements into practical processes and working with IT on controls
  • Working knowledge of enterprise AI services, connectors, agents, data flows, access models, and information lifecycle risks
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional reviews and managing staff or operational work, with clear communication and sound judgment

Preferred:

  • Experience in a law firm or professional services organization and familiarity with client and matter intake, conflicts, document management, or financial systems
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Purview, iManage, or comparable information protection and governance platforms
  • Experience handling sensitive information and applying privacy, confidentiality, retention, and client requirements in collaboration with relevant subject matter experts

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Accountability for IG responsibilities and effective coordination across functional owners
  • Ability to balance staff leadership with hands-on assessment and issue resolution
  • Service-oriented approach to change management, process improvement, and cross-functional delivery

What We Do

The attorneys at Fisher Phillips are committed to providing value to our clients. We do one thing - represent employers in labor and employment matters. Our clients know their legal problems will be treated as business problems and that we strive to help them avoid legal problems. We believe the lawsuit that’s never filed is a better win for a client than a costly defense verdict. Although skilled and tenacious advocates, our attorneys recognize that the most aggressive and expensive approach may not always be the best solution to a client's problem. We seek to identify the client's primary business objective, design a solution to fit the objective, and implement that solution in the most efficient manner possible. By performing compliance audits, providing the right policies, procedures and training, and offering thoughtful advice and counsel, we assist clients in preventing employee claims and lawsuits, government investigations, and union organizing activity. We’re in the client service business and know that many labor and employment problems arise without much warning and require an immediate response. We meet deadlines and provide plenty of advance time where client review of documents is needed. And we communicate with our clients in plain English. Founded in Atlanta, we're national with 37 offices and more than 500 attorneys. Our attorneys practice before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in virtually every state.
