Management Accountant
Portsmouth
Hybrid - 3 Days in the office

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Management Accountant to join the Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate management information, supporting budgeting and forecasting cycles, and providing financial insight to support strategic decision-making across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Produce and analyse trial balances (TB), investigating and resolving variances and discrepancies.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal postings, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and rolling financial projections.
  • Provide variance analysis against budget and prior periods, with clear commentary for stakeholders.
  • Partner with department and business unit leads to ensure financial data is accurately reflected and understood.
  • Support integration and consolidation activities across business units or acquired entities, ensuring reporting integrity.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, financial processes, and documentation.
  • Assist with statutory reporting, audit preparation, and liaison with external auditors.
  • Identify and escalate reporting risks or anomalies.
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and project work as required

Qualifications

  • Part-qualified or newly qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a management accounting or financial reporting role.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g. NetSuite, SAP, Sage, Xero) advantageous.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, investigative approach to numbers.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and prioritise effectively.
  • Experience working across multiple entities, business units, or during periods of business integration is a plus.
