Job Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY:
Magna Engineered Glass, a leading automotive parts manufacturer specializing in glass encapsulation, bonding, assembly systems, and automation, is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to oversee a team of advanced manufacturing, controls, and industrial engineers supporting three shifts of operations. This team is responsible for launching new equipment, managing production projects, and introducing cutting-edge technologies to enhance manufacturing processes. The role requires strong expertise in electrical engineering, control systems, and technical specifications, with the ability to coordinate initiatives that may span multiple shifts.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and supervision to a team of engineers, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of equipment launch projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards and budget constraints.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge in manufacturing processes, control systems, and industrial engineering to solve complex problems and optimize production efficiency.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless integration of new equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of innovation within the team.
  • Ensure all projects comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Design, develop, and implement advanced control systems, including programming and troubleshooting ABB robots, Allen Bradley PLCs, and Keyence Vision systems.
  • Perform detailed electrical engineering design, including system architecture, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Conduct system integration and validation, ensuring proper functionality and compatibility of control systems.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive control system documentation, including technical specifications and operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers and external vendors to procure control system components, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the three-shifts of production teams during the installation, commissioning, and debugging phases.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and control system anomalies, minimizing downtime and maximizing production efficiency.
  • Travel to customer sites and manufacturing facilities (approximately 25% of the time) for equipment launches and production projects.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements in control systems, automation, and electrical engineering, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Responsible for supporting departmental safety performance, including meeting measurable safety goals, enforcing safe work practices, and ensuring compliance with safety policies. Must lead by example and take corrective action when safety standards are not met.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, demonstrating flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and priorities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in advanced manufacturing, controls, and industrial engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in programming and troubleshooting ABB robots, Allen Bradley PLCs, and Keyence Vision systems (CVX, IV3, IV4, and VS).
  • Experience with glass encapsulation, bonding, assembly systems, and automation in the automotive industry is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of control system concepts, including PID control, motion control, robotics, and vision systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering principles, including system architecture, motor control, and electrical safety.
  • Experience in creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve electrical and control system issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 25% of the time).
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protocols in manufacturing environments.
  • English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Office Environment: est. 40%
  • Plant Environment: est. 60%
  • The employee must be able to tolerate sitting for extended periods of time.
  • It requires Near/Far/Depth/Color vision in order to be able to tolerate the eye strain associated with working on a computer throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to tolerate the use of a keyboard and mouse on average of 6 hours per workday.
  • While working in the Plant environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.

  • Problem-solving and Troubleshooting: Expertise in diagnosing and resolving control system anomalies and electrical issues, with a focus on minimizing downtime and optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration and Communication: Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, external vendors, and equipment suppliers, as well as to communicate technical information clearly.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: Ability to stay updated on industry advancements in control systems and automation, recommending and integrating innovative solutions to enhance production efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
