Job Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have Ontario Secondary School Diploma or ministry-approved equivalent.
- Completion of any co-ops in relation to the machinist technical field would be considered an asset
- Current enrollment in a machinist post-secondary program would be given preference
- Must have technical knowledge and/ or hands-on experience with operating and maintaining machine tools, producing metal parts, and learning about manufacturing processes
- Working knowledge of the English language (both written and spoken)
- Knowledge of equipment and machines in department e.g. various mills, lathe, various hand tools, crane, measurement tools etc.
- Good understanding of CNC machines and processes.
- Position requires a high degree of accuracy and close attention to tolerances working with a variety of technical equipment.
- Must be flexible in respect to hours of work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To apprentice with a licensed/seasoned journeyman while registered as a day release student with an Ontario recognized skilled trade institute i.e., Sheridan, Durham College with the ultimate goal of obtaining recognition and award of Licensed Machinist Certificate.
- Support production department needs.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and work-process documentation.
- Cut, shape, and finish metal to make machine precision machining parts and components.
- Set up and operate conventional and numerically controlled metal-cutting machines and equipment including saws, drills, grinders, lathes and mills.
- Perform work-in-process measuring or checking using specialized and precision tools and equipment.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment
- Observe standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act as well as rules and regulations outlined in the employee handbook.
- Must be able to read and work from blueprints.
- Adhere to standards and rules described in the Employee Handbook, conduct in a manner consistent with those practices leading to the safe operation of the division and displaying leadership, concerns and a safe work ethics.
- Ensure company policies are adhered to at all times.
- Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Perform other assignments from time to time as Department Manager and/or his designees so direct
- Responsible for participating in monthly Health & Safety Quiz
- Comply and participate with Suggestions and Continuous Improvement program at MSM.
