Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) is looking for a M&A Associate based out of Luca de Tena office (Madrid)

While based in Spain, the role is fully integrated within Santander CIB's broader European Technology franchise, providing the opportunity to work alongside colleagues across the region on high profile strategic M&A, equity capital markets, and other corporate finance transactions for leading technology clients.

As part of Santander CIB's global Technology franchise, you will work within an integrated international platform that combines the reach, resources, and execution capabilities of a leading global bank with the agility and entrepreneurial culture of a fast-growing advisory team. Associates are expected to take meaningful responsibility from the outset, playing a central role in transaction execution, client engagement, financial analysis, and business development initiatives

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing differentiated insights on Technology sector dynamics, including valuation trends, capital flows, strategic and sponsor activity, public market performance, disruptive business models, and emerging subsectors.

  • Driving the preparation and quality control of senior-level client materials, including pitch books, strategic reviews, management presentations, information memoranda, board materials, investor presentations and internal approval documents.

  • Building and reviewing complex financial models and valuation analyses, including operating models, DCFs, trading comparables, precedent transactions, merger models, accretion/dilution analyses, sensitivities and scenario-based valuation frameworks.

  • Taking ownership of execution workstreams across M&A, strategic advisory and equity-led processes, driving timelines, due diligence workstreams and stakeholder coordination across clients, advisors and internal teams.

  • Mentoring and managing Analysts and interns, setting execution standards, reviewing outputs and helping create a high-performance, collaborative team culture.

Successful candidates will combine strong analytical capabilities with sound commercial judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in the Technology sector.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Professional Experience

  • Prior investment banking experience is required, at least 4 years in M&A / Corporate Finance advisory within a leading investment bank, global financial institution, elite boutique or top-tier advisory platform.

  • Demonstrated execution experience, with the ability to lead workstreams, manage parallel deliverables and maintain high quality under demanding timelines.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing senior-quality client materials, transaction documentation and internal committee materials, with strong attention to detail and judgment.

  • Previous exposure and deal execution experience in software, fintech, digital infrastructure or tech-enabled services is a plus.  However, candidates with broader M&A experience and a clear interest in technology sector will also be considered.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including comfort interacting with clients, advisors, investors and cross-border internal teams.

  • Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy while contributing to a collaborative, team-first environment.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree with a strong academic track record.

  • Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative backgrounds are especially relevant, although not required.

  • Additional postgraduate qualifications, CFA progress or technical training in financial modelling are valued.

Languages

  • Fluency in English written and oral is required.

  • Additional languages are a plus.

Hard Skills

  • Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills, supported by a solid understanding of accounting, corporate finance and transaction structuring.  Knowledge of Technology sector business models, operating metrics, and valuation methodologies would be highly valued.

  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise and client-ready materials.

  • Familiarity with Capital IQ, FactSet, Refinitiv, Mergermarket, Bloomberg, PitchBook, Dealroom, S&P, Infralogic or similar tools is preferred.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills.

  • Genuine curiosity for Technology and the ability to translate market trends into actionable corporate finance ideas.

  • High ownership mindset, reliability under pressure and strong attention to detail.
