Primary Function:

The Lunch Program Assistant will support the School’s meal program each day the school is in operation to ensure all students have access to breakfast and lunch during the school day.

Essential Functions:
 

Support the school’s meal program and the distribution of breakfast and lunch.


  • Check students in for breakfast and lunch using PowerSchool.
  • Set up and prepare breakfast and lunch service for our students.
  • Ensure breakfast and lunch service follows NSLP (National School Lunch Program) requirements, school policies, and compliance guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the lunch team to ensure smooth and efficient meal service.
  • Communicate with food service providers and delivery staff to ensure enough meals are available for all students and prevent food shortages.
  • Monitor meal inventory throughout breakfast and lunch service and request additional meals when needed.
  • Supervise students during breakfast and lunch to maintain a safe, organized, and respectful environment.
  • Ensure students are lined up properly before entering the cafeteria and while waiting for meals.
  • Monitor student behavior while students are eating breakfast and lunch and reinforce school expectations.
  • Assist students with meal service needs and ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Record daily breakfast and lunch meals served and maintain accurate meal count records.
  • Record leftover meals after each breakfast and lunch service.
  • Complete and maintain NSLP transportation records and required meal documentation.
  • Record food temperatures before and during meal service to ensure meals meet food safety requirements and compliance standards.
  • Verify that food is held and served at safe temperatures according to health and nutrition guidelines.
  • Enter and maintain daily meal service data in tracking spreadsheets.
  • Reconcile meal counts at the end of breakfast and lunch service.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for reporting, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Communicate any meal service concerns, shortages, or discrepancies to the appropriate staff.
  • Help ensure all breakfast and lunch procedures are followed accurately, safely, and efficiently.
  • Monitor students with food allergies and dietary restrictions to ensure they are served the correct meals.
  • Verify allergy information before serving food and prevent students from receiving items containing allergens.
  • Ensure students requiring special meals (such as gluten-free, nut-free, or other medically approved dietary accommodations) receive the appropriate meal.
  • Communicate with the kitchen and food service staff to ensure all special dietary meals are available and correctly served.
  • Maintain a safe meal service environment by following all food allergy and cross-contamination procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with all students and stake holders.

Other Functions:

  • Adhering to school policies, procedures, and deadlines
  • Assist in the before/afterschool carpool
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Assist in other school programs when necessary

Physical Requirements:

Continual speaking; standing for extended periods of time; frequent sitting, reaching, walking, bending, grasping, and pinching; occasional lifting and carrying, squatting, twisting, or kneeling.

 

Environment:

Uneven surfaces, noise, quick work pace. Requires that the incumbent work effectively under stressful situations and respond to the unpredictable behaviors of students. Occasionally involves working outdoors and exposure to inclement weather. Infrequently involves exposure to traffic congestion. May rarely involve exposure to biohazardous waste.

Support the Mission and Vision of the School; exercise good judgment and moral character; fingerprint clearance, TB test clearance, CPR/First Aid and AED certification and regular attendance. Qualifications

(*) Bachelor’s degree (preferred); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

(*) Charter School office experience (preferred)

(*) Familiarity working with school-aged children

(*) TB Test clearance & DOJ finger printing clearance

(*) A demonstrated commitment to strong customer service, high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace

(*) Maintain a valid Adult and Child CPR/First Aid and AED certification.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Charter school office experience
  • Familiarity working with school-aged children
